Battery woes - sassparilla_kid - 07-25-2012

So long story short, my battery stopped working. Got a new one, hooked it up, and sparks shot out?? There is some current going somewhere that doesn't make any sense to me. Even after taking all of the fuses out, and disconnecting the alternator, there is still current going somewhere. Wtf? So I guess this means there is either a short in the ignition or the starter, or is there something else I'm missing?

I had a short in the alternator harness once.

Lots of sparks, or a small zap? A small zap is normal.

Double check that the glow plug controller isn't staying on constantly. I killed a optima red top because the controller was staying on constantly and the alternator couldn't keep the system charged.

My gp relay died some years ago, so I replaced it with a ford starter solenoid. I had the thought this morning that the solenoid might be stuck "on" so I just checked it right now when I got home, and sure enough it is. I'm gonna go grab another one here in a couple minutes, along with some fuses and stuff. Soooo stoked I won't be driving a Yaris any more haha
