200hp om617 - Gearbound - 07-20-2012

Doing a engine swap from a 300td 1982 to a 88 toyota 4x4 and ive been driving the 300td for a daily vehicle and need less to say it GUTLESS 0-60 in 20 sec! So i cleaned the alda lines and checked the maintenance items and fixed any and all oil leaks. also noticed that the alda tamper tin cap is gone.

so the goal is 200rwhp it HAS to be possible on stock long block.

the user (theturbodave) has a build on his 300td where he got above 200hp and used it for motorsports. im going to see about checking out his compound setup and cut delivery valves. now when he cut them he actually put a bevel on them so it doesnt smoke like thomas the choo choo train.

so the plan to get 200rwhp is to cut the dv and compound the turbos with custom intake and intercooler egt and boost gauges and bolt it up to the yota. to anwser your questions on drivetrain its a r150 toyota 5 speed with the 2.88 transfercase and 4.10 2 pinion open diff with 28'' all terrains

one question what is a good rpm for this engine? at 65mph my rpm is 3k and 80mph is close too 4k rpm so i thought maybe 30'' tires would bring my rpm to 2500rpm at 65mph id like to maximize mpg when not in boost.

RE: 200hp om617 - aaa - 07-20-2012

Torque peak is at 2400, mainly because that's when the turbo kicks in fully. 2500rpm sounds like it'd have the oomf for highway speed. Course you could calculate your drag and so forth to see how much torque you'd need a certain speed.

RE: 200hp om617 - Gearbound - 07-21-2012

ok so 30'' would be efficient. anyhow ill do the valve adjustment soon and continue up with the swap but ill finish my first swap then start the 200hp 617. but any info on 617 performance upgrades would be gracefully accepted.

RE: 200hp om617 - Riverstick - 07-21-2012

My W212 200 cdi six speed manual is turning @1,600 rpms...and returns 50+mpg all the time....I think as you go up on the output, you have to come down on the highway revs

RE: 200hp om617 - Gearbound - 07-21-2012

dang 1600rpm would take 35'' tires or bigger and that would definently kill the acceleration. so anyways are there any used myna pumps or pp diesel pumps for sale? im trying to keep options open for fuel besides cutting dv.

RE: 200hp om617 - tomnik - 07-22-2012

you are talking about MW pumps?
In that case member OM616 is the only one.

M pumps, preferably with turbo governor you can get with the biggest elements from pp diesel, also he has a wide range of modified DVs.

RE: 200hp om617 - Gearbound - 07-22-2012

om617 M pumps seem to be the only IP that myna or pp diesel modifies for my application. from what i have read it cost $1500.00 or more for a pump upgrade. i just dont see spending that much on this iron lump when the motor can be bought for $300.

but my question is where can i find a second hand myna or pp diesel pump for sale? if i can get a modified m pump for $500 to $900 id buy. until then ill just cut a bevel into the dv and get nozzels.

RE: 200hp om617 - aaa - 07-22-2012

Someone got one for $1400 secondhand... and that's if you even see one for sale.

RE: 200hp om617 - Gearbound - 07-22-2012

so how much can the mw pump support in stock form?

RE: 200hp om617 - ronnie - 07-23-2012

I've heard about 160-170hp on the stock(but adjusted) mw pump.

RE: 200hp om617 - Gearbound - 07-23-2012

and thats at that power is guesstimated from the crank or real dyno numbers?

RE: 200hp om617 - ronnie - 07-25-2012

I think this is from what Forced had said, and I am not sure if there are any dyno numbers to prove or disprove it. I have found a new shop near me with a dyno, so am tempted to dyno mine. mine is a 616, four cylinder not the 5(617). I seem to be near maxed out on the stock pump as further adjustments are not doing much more.

RE: 200hp om617 - Gearbound - 07-25-2012

Sweet I know the stock form of 617 is roughly 88hp on dyno

There are at least 4 different hp ratings for 617's ranging from 80 to 125hp, maybe more. There would have to be some serious drivetrain inefficiency for any healthy turbo 617's to sputter out 88hp at the rear wheels.

RE: 200hp om617 - ronnie - 07-26-2012

ok 617 or 617a? by the way a 300td is a station wagon. I am assuming by 300td you are refering really to a turbo diesel, and that is a 617a. the 617 is non turbo and is about 88 hp. Think most 617a(turbo) are around 125hp when in a 300d. 300d is the sedan, and could be had with or without the turbo, but always the 5 cylinder engine. this of course is just for the 123 body style, from 77 to 85. Short history lesson......hope I have it right.

RE: 200hp om617 - aaa - 07-26-2012

He's probably talking about hp at the wheels, with lots of drivetrain losses.

RE: 200hp om617 - OM616 - 07-27-2012

You most likely are limited by the Max Speed Governor, it starts giving way sooner than people think and any Torque Control adjustments are canceled out once the TC load matches or exceeds the Max Speed Spring tension threshold.

The solution is to change the Max Speed Governor Spring Tension screw out with a longer one to increase the tension and gain mid and top end. But, the unloaded Max regulated speed will be increased, so if that is a concern keep it in mind.

That is the problem with the mechanical system, it does not allow full fueling up to the cut off RPM like an EFI system would.

As a side note; I have a tracking number for the sample 10mm element, so I should have it soon to evaluate.

RE: 200hp om617 - Hercules - 07-27-2012

How much longer screw was used? What was the gap between the lock nut and screw head. NOTE: that I do this at my own RISK!!! Also noting results may vary .
Thanks.

RE: 200hp om617 - ronnie - 07-27-2012

I do still have the stock screw in there, it is maxed out. Not worried about it keeping max speed under control, that's my job as the driver..... So guess it is time to get a longer one. I have a truelly junk 616 ip, that I can take the screw out of to measure.

Good news on the elements.

by the way the rear sometime????

RE: 200hp om617 - Gearbound - 07-29-2012

300td I am referring to is the Turbo model with adla adjustment backed out and all routine maintenance completed. Figure 125hp advertised in 1980s and now 2012 it has 100-90hp off crank. 200k miles
