OM617 to AX-15 Adapter - Simpler=Better - 06-12-2012

I bought this adapter from a guy on CL down here, and I wound up driving 6 hours total to pick the PITA up.

My plans have changed, I'm not using an AX-15 anymore.

Looking for $150 shipped, gets you a homemade plate and a drilled/pinned flywheel.

I'll toss up some photos tonight.

The guy I bought it from said it was the stock AX-15. The stock holes have been pinned and 6 holes have been drilled to fit the Merc crank.

Yeah I was going to make my own and this one popped up, so I nabbed it. Then a different vintage jeep came along for almost no money, and I jumped on it. It's all homemade work...and I never had an AX-15 to bolt it up to. Just going on faith that it will work.

Just a heads up to anyone who may be interested.

This adapter can be used to run a R154 gearbox by removing the stock bell housing and using the AX15 front section/input shaft. This is the gearbox in the 86-92 Supra Turbo 5-speed, and is much stronger than the AX15. Similar transmissions can be found in 4WD Toyotas from the mid 80's to late 90's.

This will allow an OM engine to be mated to an AX15 transmission. These came in Jeep and Dodge trucks in the 80s to 90s in 2wd and 4wd models. It is a 5sp manual and this adapter is presumably for swapping an OM engine into another 4wd vehicle.

Bingo! I've been crazy busy, I haven't had time to take photos. It's literally a 1/4" aluminum plate with a bunch of holes drilled in it and a Jeep Flywheel with 6 holes to match the merc pattern.

Could you then put that tranny into a w123?

You'd need to make sure of a few things, such as that there's physically room to fit the transmission in the tunnel, and that the shift lever locates through the stock floorpan hole. That is, unless you plan on doing any cutting/hammering. After that, it's as simple as modifying the stock crossmember to fit or fabbing a new one, and making a driveshaft that will work (u-joint in front, guibo in rear).

RE: OM617 to AX-15 Adapter - Simpler=Better - 06-20-2012

Probably not without major modifications. The AX-15 has a top-mounted shifter and is prettty long (the shiny one):
