More annoying "What's this?" questions - Gasoline Fumes - 05-17-2009

Can somebody tell me what the following parts do? It's an '85 Federal emissions 300D.

Glow plugs?

What do these parts do? I'd like to make the plate disappear.

Thank you for any info about these parts. Smile

1: Yes, glowplug relay with a spider egg sack.
2: Melted relay is aftermarket, as is the large box. You'll have to trace them and figure out their function.

A:Cruise control amp
B: ?
C: Wiper relay.
D: ?
E: ?
F & G: Climate control temperature controls.
H: Overvoltage protection relay.

Below H and behind the kick panel door is the EGR computer.

Thanks! Smile

What kind of spider? Tongue

I thought the melted fuse thing might be aftermarket, but the silver relay on that plate looks factory. And I'm pretty sure the black box is factory too, it has a MB part number.

I would say wolf spider Big Grin

Under my 16V there was blackwidow eggs everywhere and mommy was waiting for me by the fuel pump.

looks like the electric fan relay on my 190.

The silver relay is for either the front fan or A/C clutch. Since the black box has an MB part number its probably the alarm system "brain".

Thanks again!
I'll see if I can figure out what the black box is for. And I'll do the same for B, D & E.

You should see the truck it goes to! Tongue
The little melted fuse box was spliced into the climate control harness for reasons I'll probably never know. I removed it along with the whole auto HVAC harness.

"A" is the buzzer, I guess the other silver box near it that I didn't see before is the cruise amp.

"B" is the rear defroster relay.

"D" clicks with the ignition switch, but I don't know what it does yet.

The harness from "E" seems to go towards the rear of the car.

Do the locks run off the mechanic vacuum pump, or is there an electric vacuum pump for them?

Here are pics of what's inside the underhood black box:

I haven't traced the harness yet. This was on the same bracket as the blue vacuum thing.

Mechanical. There is a reservoir in the trunk.

The black box houses the KILMA relay. It is part of the function of the A/C, EGR computer and Tach. That silver relay is the A/C cutout switch relay.

"D" is your power windows relay

"E" I believe is part of the function of turn signals and hazards.
