What is the best repair manual for this engine ? and where to get It from ?
I have been reading for a few days and I am confused?
I don’t want to ask a lot of question up front.
So here is my project.
I am converting a 1985 Toyota 4Runner to diesel
My choice of engine is the Mercedes OM617.950
Engine choice was made by the local salvage yard.
I found a 1980 300SD 115k with front end and driver side damage.
I did start the engine in the car for about 15-20 seconds, before I did this I added new oil and new fuel.
The engine is a turbo and started on the 5 rotation of the engine with no glow plugs just jumping the starter wand a batter hooked up with jumper cables.
So my first question is what is the best manual to purchase or download on line for basic adjustment and setting of the OM617.950 turbo.
My plans for the future would be to maybe a little more power but I will see how it drive and performs. And eventually run vegy of bio diesel.
My diesel back ground.. I have driven so diesel and put fuel in them..
My mechanical back ground rebuilt many gassers and drive train work..

Prob the M.B. WSM for the W123/W126 car is the very best....
Although most of the important stuff is in the plain old Paynes (Haynes) Manual for the '77-85' 200,220,240, 300D/TD M.B. W123....

Dose the Haynes book go into the IP timing and the other timing and the ALDA?
I would like to keep the om617 as close to stock for now as possible.
Maybe later turn it a bit. But until I have it in my yota and see how she performs

I have the Haynes manual, and it does talk about adjusting IP timing. Not sure about the ALDA, I just backed mine all the way out haha

http://toyotadiesel.com/ has some good info on this swap. I was going to do this also in the toyota pickup, but frame rot changed my mind, plus I like the car.
