Crackling injector noise? - Purplecomputer - 05-19-2012

About less then a year ago I replaced the stock bosch nozzles with bosio nozzles I had purchased from dieselgiant.

Now they are doing the same thing where they crackle as I accelerate and I fear that is is causing damage to my engine, not to mention the huge decrease in fuel economy.

A note that I should make is that I did not pop test and balance them (mostly becuase I had no idea I had to)

Are these savable or do I need to replace them and what would cause them to do the same thing less then a year later?

I'd be a bit surprised if they were bad after only 1 year - in general, Bosio nozzles are a good product.

I'd say your 1st step is to get them pop tested and balanced. User Greazzer does them

I spent a good amount of money on them and they were awesome, I noticed more power (not much with a 240) and better idle. I was speaking to dieselgiant via email and he says I could very possibly have water in my fuel tank. Could this be true?

Update:

Could have been my fault due to negligence.

So I realized I havent changed my filters in exactly 11 months.

I labeled the air filter and it was exactly 6/19/11

same thing with the fuel since that was the last time I had changed it as well.

I put a mix of 25% diesel and 75% fuel injector cleaner in the new nozzles, changed a few worn out fuel hoses and took the car for a drive, the crackling noise seems to have went away but Ill report back if i hear it again

Have you tried a small amount of 2-stroke I put one of those 50:1 bottles in with 6 gallons, quiets my injectors right down. Also some heet to make sure you get the water out of your tank.

Sounds like sticking injectors.Usually caused by water, dry fuel or improper torque of nozzles in head. Torque should be 50lbs, no more.
Could try what Kozuka suggests

Torque: nozzle to holder 50lbs, holder to head 50lbs. Distortion will occur if much over these specs.

you may want to drain the fuel tank, and clean the screen in the fuel tank. I also poured several gallons of fuel into the tank with the screen out, just to flush out muck, and plenty came out. The old fuel went into my shop furnace, as it is designed for waste oil. For you it would be just waste to recycle so wait until you are nearly empty.

I might have over tightened them. My dad has an electronic torque tool in the garage somehwere...
