1995 om606 IP question - McAdam - 04-20-2012

SO, from what I can tell, a 1995 om606 should have a completely mechanical injection pump, is this correct?

Are these pumps desired? are they easily modded? or easier to mod, I should say. I know that if I want big power, I need an OM603 turbo pump to have rebuilt, but since the 1995 n/a is mechanical (from what little info I have found on the web about it) would it be just the same to have that one modded?

I may have a line on a complete 1995 om606 with a warranty for under $700. I know its N/A, but I figure that what I save in cost (minimum $2000 for a turbo) and shipping (another $300, at least) I can buy a set of connecting rods (the big difference between NA and turbo, from what I have read), and the NA cams make more HP anyway.

Send the pump off to Dieselmechen for some mods & slap a hairdrier on it... Far as I know, the NA is good for atleast 300 HP, if not more.... Beat it till it makes funny noises !!!

Your pump is mechanical if it comes from a W124. Pumps from W210 are electrical, both turbos and N/A.
the W124 606 pump is just as good for tuning as the 603 turbo pump but it has not an alda(since it is not a turbo pump). It is not a big deal, you can solve it by driving style or add an alda. PP diesel can do it for you or you can add one yourself. Not that difficult if you know how a pump work Smile

SO, I think I am just going to go ahead and pull the trigger and buy this engine. It has a mechanical pump, so I won't need to buy a new one, it is only $575 (no core charge either!), as a shade over 220k on it and will come with a warranty. With the money I save vs buying a turbo (cheapest one i could find was $1800 and over 1000mi away, shipping is expensive) I can buy a set of custom rods, which appears to be the weak point in these n/a engines vs the turbo versions.

Is there anything I should look out for?
