N/A OM602 with BMW 525tds turbo - hannes_s - 01-16-2012

As I am not that smart about turbo engines I started a smaller projekt.
I have 1989 2.5D 66kW OM602 N/A engine and I started to install a turbo on it. I am using BMW turbo because there are not that many Mercedes original turbo mainfolds or turbos around here (Estonia) and it was a good opportunity to learn about making a turbo manifold.
I am hoping to get the same power out of it as the original turbo om602 or even a bit more (~100kW). At this power the original N/A pistons and rods should be fine?
What do you think about using a N/A injection pump (I already have turned IP 2f screw two turns CCW) is it enough?

I did this with an om605 (same engine block with 20v twin-cam cylinder head) with an bigger turbo, it did work out to be a usable engine Smile
Just make sure you connect the alda valve (looks like an vacuum actuator thing, with a black plastic knob on it, on top of the IP) with a thin vacuum hose to the intake manifold.. You can altso remove the little black thing, and turn the screw a couple of rounds up, to gain more diesel before boost..

N/A engine has no alda

hannes, yes! put the turbo on it and have fun with it Smile

Your engine hasn't got piston cooling nozzles. I think this is the bigger problem. anno I used exhaust manifold from sprinter/e290 TDI, with turbo. This configuration you will get about 80KW. I think you should be replace the engine for 2.5TD or 2.9TDI.Its simpler

So if my IP has no ALDA, is there a possibility adding it or I have to find turbo injection pump?
I have seen some N/A injection pumps with ALDA adtuator but those do not have vacuum hose on them.

This is bullshit! I have 3 IP's, one from 2,9 602 N/A, one from 605 N/A, both these has ALDA, and one from om 602 N/A wich dont have alda.
My 605 pump defenatly made a difference with or without connection to the intake manifold, so I can confirm its a working ALDA!

Don't post as if you know, if you dont, thats an bullshitpollution of the forum! And if thats ok, than well might as well throw the entire forum in the bin' with the rest of the internet garbage!

HOWEVER different opinions, thoughts and ideas is always good to share,
but lets be honest if we think/believe or know for a fact!

RE: N/A OM602 with BMW 525tds turbo - hannes_s - 01-30-2012

Right now I have N/A IP and it works, but its not the way I want it to work. I can not turn the 2f screw much more than 2 turns CCW, if I do than I wont get correct idle. It means that if I adjust engines idle lower than 900p/min (after turning IP 2f screw ~2,75 turns CCW) than the engin dies when I put transmission to D or R position.
So I was thinking that if I add external ALDA than maybe I whould be able to turn injection pumps full load about 3 turns CCW and would get proper idle as well by moving the shut off valve as ALDA does.

RE: N/A OM602 with BMW 525tds turbo - hannes_s - 04-10-2012

Engine has worked about 4000km and it seems to be OK. When driving ~100km/h 2550rpm (5-speed manual) with cruise control, turbo makes about 0,5bar. With full throttel it makes 0,7bar.... is it OK or N/A engin can handel more?
I am also looking for turbo engine air cleaner for my W124, right now I am using M111 aircleaner that doese not fit that good.

relax, relax! i only want to help. and im not takling bullshit!!!!
my n/a ip has no..
ALDA (Absolut Messende Ladedruck Anreicherung) google translate(Measuring absolute boost pressure enrichment)
my FAKT: NO TURBO NO BOOST
so my N/A Engine has no turbo! therefore NO BOOST AND NO ALDA!
why i should need a "Measuring absolute BOOST pressure enrichment" if i have no BOOST???
maybe you have a box at your ip,s. But there is vacuum and not boost pressure

I had the best results with 0.9-1.1 bar with stock pump and turbo
