OM617 Will this manual trans fit? 1960s era 230 with a 6 cyl - rdavisinva - 01-16-2012

Locally there is a 1960s era Mercedes 230 4 dr sdn with a 6 cyl engine and manual transmission.
This 230 is very badly rusted, BUT has a manual transmission.
The starter is on the right side of the engine.
The shift pattern is worn off the knob.
Asked the owner to try an locate an xxx.xxx number.
The owner didn't know much about the vehicle.
It does have a floor shift, NOT on the column.

It is possibly a 1965-1968 W110 or a W111, the owner has no clue.
Initially didn't find anything on the possibility of this being a 4 or 5 speed on the Web via search engines, but after a while spent reading search hits only found 4 speeds for the W110 and an optional 5 speed for the W111.

Anyone know the possibility of this being a donor 5 speed to mount in a W123 (originally typed W124 by mistake) behind an OM617?

Anyone have a list of W110, W111, W112 5 speed numbers for the manual transmission options?

I don't think there were many 5-speeds in the 60's...

Did you mean W123 instead of w124? Because I wouldn't use a 617 in a w124.

If that is indeed a 5 speed, it's probably an "iron box".

Yes another typo. It's W123 not W124.
Thanks for the picture and pointing out the typo.
