How did you wreck it? How fast were you going?

Around 35 then suddenly braked, So I'd say around 10? I hit a Chevrolet Express 3500 Heavy Duty. Amazingly no damage happened to the van, since I hit it in the center of the wheel. (The front passenger side wheel.)

This is what it looked like at the time of the accident. :[Image: 2011-10-25142240.jpg]

You might get 2,600 bucks Idk. But I do like the car if that helps any. I would fix it then sell it. Even if you do have the time right now to fix it, It would be better than losing ~2,400 bucks (if im right bout the 5k investment into the automobile). Personal I would not sell the car, but I have the time, money (kinda) and the place to store it. I have no idea whats on your plate right now, but it looks like its your baby. And I learned my lesson first hand over the summer about selling my wrecked baby to a scape yard. Make a trip to pull-a-part and get what you need for a few bucks and fix it.

Disclaimer, I don't know truly what Im talking about, since Im not you. But if this was my car I would keep it and try to fix it to make more money.

RE: Selling my '79 300SD - CJP28 - 11-24-2011

Oh, I understand, and yes sir I fell love with it, my parents want me to sell it because they say it's not worth fixing anymore, since the parts are hard to get, and since I'll be going to a school a bit far from home soon, they say I'm better off selling the car and getting a newer more reliable car. But in reality it's really hard for me to let go. Another thing is that it has no a/c and the heat here in Texas is killer! Like seriously hot and humid! Lol If I don't get Anywhere around or over $2200, I'm keeping it no matter what, that's the deal I made with my parents. Thanks for your suggestion serverman777!

RE: Selling my '79 300SD - serverman777 - 11-24-2011

Ok Story time about parents make sons to sell their cars.

I had a '92 Geo Storm. LOVE HER to death. Had it towed 5 times in like 6 months. Blowen it up in every way possible multiple times. The car only costed me 100 bucks so it wasn't that big of a investment. Never the lest she was mine and I loved her more than anything. Well one july night on the way back from dropping off my 7 year old nephew that his moms house, I was spending though a intersection (50 in a like a 35) and was hit by a driver that was turning left coming from the other way. My whole front end was ripped off the car. The trans (front wheeled drive) when up into the firewall pushing the dash board into me, air bag when off, ripped most of my skin off my right hand. Well it wasn't my fault (lied to the cops about what speed I was going). But the other driver didn't have insurance (still got 1400 bucks from him, thats a different story). So I ended up with a totaled car with a complet upper end rebuild that they only imported 2k a year for 3 years. I was going to do anything to her back on the road. BUT!! my mom was like no. So i sold it to a scape yard for 256 dollars. And got my '84 SD. And just to piss off my mom for not letting me keep my storm I got a '85 500 SEL parts car and parked it in the front yard, jacked it up and ripped off the wheels.

All you have to do to keep your car is when/if someone comes and looks at it just be a dick to them and they will not buy it. So then you will never sell it. Smile And whats this about it not worth fixing? Its a freaking Mercedes! I spent many hours working on shit that wasn't close as nice as your car.
What ever the out come I wish you the best of luck. And I do feel for you, I don't fear break downs. But Im fucking horrified of accidents.

RE: Selling my '79 300SD - CJP28 - 11-24-2011

Aww man that's an inspiring story! Yet sad at the same time. Ahh there's nothing like a first car! <3 And a Geo Storm I've seen those, I remember I saw a silver one back in elementary that said it was tuned and designed by Lotus, I never forgot that car, since the body was always cool to me haha. And the amount of cash you got sound like a WIN to me! Although your hand got fucked up and so did the Storm :/ but the good thing is you got yourself a badass Benz by the picture that shows up on your posts, I can say damn that's a badass looking SD! As for my car time will tell on how it will turn out. Most likely I'll keep her. Smile Thanks for sharing this with me and for your kind words. I appreciate it

FIX IT UP!!!! That's just a flesh wound lol. I know the only way Im parting with my mercedes is never so even if it were to get completely totaled and smashed into a cube I would still keep it and say its "modern" art or something

RE: Selling my '79 300SD - garage - 11-24-2011

I would try to fix that man!
It looks to be all cosmetic, is it?
I crashed my w116 wayy worse than that and still drove it, the next day i totalled it in another accident....

I cant see how much your selling your car for, but the most my dad has ever payed for a diesel Benz is 900, the most ive ever payed was 700.
Ive bought them for as low as 400

RE: Selling my '79 300SD - serverman777 - 11-24-2011

What size subs do you have in your boot?

RE: Selling my '79 300SD - Purplecomputer - 11-26-2011

Thats a beautiful car. I would probably sell it to though. If your like me and dont have the time or money and have school to go to, you need a good car. Theres plenty more of those same cars out there so you could probably do a trade and get yourself a decent car.

Did that brush guard bumper come with your car or did you install it later?
I like it, and didnt even realize it was installed in your avatar pic.
I would have loved to have one of those on one of my w116's..

No it's original. It was soo difficult to remove by the way! Haha And thanks. Which model W116's do you own or have owned in the past?

RE: Selling my '79 300SD - garage - 11-26-2011

The bumper was hard to remove? I took mine off without problem.

I had a '79 w116 SD, and a '80 w116 SD. Two w126 SD's wich i cant remember the year of. A '79 240D, and a '81 240D.

Currently i dont own a Benz myself, but my dad has a w126 SD, my ma and sister share a w123 300D, and i also have Rudolf Diesels old SD in my front yard waiting for a engine to be built for it.

Too many..haha
