My turbo bolt were super easy to.break loose today after continuous pb blaster spraying for a few days.

What color u painting your mani's?

I definitely should have soaked them before hand! And I'm painting the exhaust, well, the can says "flat red" on the sticker, but it is actually more of a reddish-orange-ish color. Can't decide if I should paint the intake manifold or not, if I did I would want it to be a different color than the exhaust, but I don't have any other high temperature paint and I'm not sure if regular spray will work or not

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - sassparilla_kid - 05-21-2012

Got the manifolds in, and things are allllll goooooood. The butt dyno says there is definitely an increase in low in horsepower and torque, and probably a good second has been taken off my 0-60 time. I still need to wire up the pyrometer though, but the probe is in there!

Tomorrow I'm gonna try to finish getting the methanol stuff set up, I have to route the line from the trunk and hook up the wiring and stuff, soo I hope that will take another second off the 0-60 time, because then maybe it finally might be down to 14 seconds lol

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - lgreeley83 - 05-21-2012

Maybe you said this... you got a 115 mani or just plain non egr manis going on it? Wondering for comparison to my butt dyno . Ive got a 115 and non egr exhaust about to go on.

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - sassparilla_kid - 05-22-2012

I just put plain non-egr manis from an '80 300SD. I have a w115 intake mani that I almost put on, but I didn't have one of those big rubber elbows to make it work with the turbo, so I'm just gonna save it until its time for an intercooler.

I would have to say that it was definitely a lot easier putting everything back together, partly because I knew where everything went and all the tricks, and secondly because I didn't have to put quite as much stuff back on. I'm sure that when it comes time to do it all again it won't take me nearly as long to get everything off the car

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - lgreeley83 - 05-22-2012

Im trying to find that elbow right now. Not doing the intercooler yet.

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - sassparilla_kid - 05-23-2012

Yeah me either, the way I see it is that to need an intercooler, I need to have a bigger turbo (either stock rebuilt with bigger comp wheel, or fancy vnt). And in order to need a bigger turbo, I need to have more fuel, which means pulling the pump to make adjustments, and despite reading the thread on adjusting pumps probably 10 times I am still definitely not prepared to pull mine out and possibly mess it up lol. So for now, I will just be content with the stuff that I have already done.

I also think its time to take a break from engine mods and should put more time/money towards new tires and suspension and w126 brakes and all that jazz

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - sassparilla_kid - 08-23-2012

Sooo, if all goes well (it rarely does) and I am able to find the backing plates for the genII w126 brakes this week at the junkyard, then I'll be installing the w126 brakes within the next week. Also have 4 Bilstein HD shocks en route, as well as a new steering stabilizer, so I'll be installing them as well.

And iirc the rear seat back needs to come out to change the rear shocks, so I'll finally route the water injection line from the trunk to the engine bay at the same time, so I might finally get that whole thing finished lol

And I think I might pull all of my wvo stuff out this weekend, seeing as how I don't have access to any more bulk used wvo (my friend and I were getting hundreds of gallons from a tortilla chip factory, and they stopped selling to us because we low balled on the price, or should I say, my friend lo balled on the price haha) SO I might finally be able to use my trunk once again for carrying around tools or moonshine or bodies or whatever else I have a need to move from point A to point B

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - Simpler=Better - 08-23-2012

I used VHT flat red paint on my exhaust, prep and curing are EVERYTHING. It lasted on mine until it got coated by salted and eroded off.

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - sassparilla_kid - 08-23-2012

Wow I just realised I haven't put up any pictures of the car with the non-egr goodness installed, or straight pipe or anything of that nature. I will have to remedy this!!

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - Simpler=Better - 08-24-2012

Too much california medicine making you forgetful? :p

Rubber pipe connector from home depot work fine as interim connectors I ran mine for like 10k, thy just stiffened up a little bit. Hell, a connecting hose made completely from gorilla tape held 8psi

(08-24-2012, 09:06 AM)Simpler=Better Too much california medicine making you forgetful? :p

No, but working 84 hours a week is DodgyBig GrinTongueSadHuh

I have some pictures on my computer I'll upload as soon as I figure out how to make them smaller, they are really really big haha

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - sassparilla_kid - 08-26-2012

Got some Bilstein HD's installed all the way around this weekend, now the car sits about 2" taller haha, hopefully it settles down a little after a little bit of driving. Also, finally finished hooking up my water injection, now I just need to source some methanol, because after the short trip I took up and down the street, the water by itself made little to no discernible difference.

Also, here's a couple more recent pictures of the car (not since the new shocks though haha)

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - larsalan - 08-26-2012

you'll feel it once you spray some of that wiper fluid in there Wink

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - sassparilla_kid - 08-27-2012

Does all wiper fluid have methanol in it, or just the stuff rated for below-freezing temperatures??

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - JustPassinThru - 08-27-2012

All the gallon jugs of wiper fluid around here are a 50-50 mix of water and methanol, colored blue. $2.50 a gallon at WalMart.

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - Simpler=Better - 08-27-2012

If you want to spend big bucks rubbing alcohol will work too, just keep the mix under 50%

Different temp rating wiper fluids supposedly have different amounts of methanol in them, although it might just be a marketing ploy for a higher price.

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - sassparilla_kid - 08-27-2012

Yeah all of the wiper fluid around here say "+32*F" on them, so I guess they probably add less for warm weather, more for cold weather. I'll try to pick some up tomorrow, for now I'm gonna see if I have any rubbing alcohol I can use

Love those rims.

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - Simpler=Better - 08-28-2012

Your local parts store can order the -50* stuff too, if it works out

Thanks, I still need to find some center caps for them though

Yeah I'm gonna try to finds some in a bit. If not, I just won't run it with too much other than water for now, and then maybe save up and try to get a 20 gallon drum of methanol or something lol

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - sassparilla_kid - 11-08-2012

Got my big brakes in, so awesome

Awwww shit! I thought you had them. I found a set in my junkyard in SD when I was back there for winter break.

Aye aye, manual trans is going in some time in the next two or three weeks, all I'm waiting for now is a 4-speed shifter from benzguy300, and tomorrow I'm going to Mercedes Benz of Fresno to buy/order some flywheel and pressure plate bolts, and some clutch line I guess. I'll definitely take plenty of pictures and videos after that. I might even hook up the pressure switch to the water/methanol system and pour some alcohol in there Wink

Its all good, I found a seller online who has some NOS ones without the gold stars so I'm gonna send some money his way this weekend. Lucky for me I have a set of the gold center stars from a different set of wheels that should work, so I should be good to go some time in the next couple weeks. Not sure how the chrome centers are gonna look with the powdercoated wheels though lol

Okay mike-81-240d here's a pic of the Euro lamps, although you're probably already seen it over on facebook. I also stole the Royal Automobile Club badge that came on my dad's 240

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - sassparilla_kid - 02-26-2013

Scored some Euro bumpers at the PnP just now when I went over there for a set of injectors. I wanted to grab some of those 15" w126 wheels also but didn't have room for them. Oh well I guess

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - lgreeley83 - 02-27-2013

Pull other stuff?

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - sassparilla_kid - 02-27-2013

Just injectors and bumpers, there wasn't really anything else worthwhile

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - Simpler=Better - 02-27-2013

Someone needs to donate an oil filter housing to the cause(me). I'll post back all the dimensions for an oil relocator kit.

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - lgreeley83 - 02-27-2013

I want one!

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - sassparilla_kid - 02-27-2013

Can't decide if I should go back on Thursday, maybe grab more wheels

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - lgreeley83 - 02-27-2013

Spray it a goofy color...all go, no show. Costs less

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - sassparilla_kid - 03-20-2013

Got my injectors rebuilt by Greazzer and put them in the car this weekend, also advanced pump timing as far as it would go (tried setting it about 26*, and via the drip timing method the least I could get the drips down to was ~4/sec, I think I need to advance the pump a tooth maybe, or replace the timing chain). Anyway, the car seems to idle a little smoother now and has less smoke (according to people watching me take off) and my mileage seems to have jumped a little bit, hopefully the days of 19-20 are over and I'm able to get it up to around 25 or so. We'll see what happens after my next fill up.

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - sassparilla_kid - 05-28-2013

Transmission is out of the car, hopefully the 4-speed will be going in before the end of the weekend

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - Euroamg - 06-03-2013

Nice centras on the car.. By any chance the seller has another set of nos center caps for sale? I bought some center caps painted. The rims i got have the original finish it didn't look right Big Grin

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - sassparilla_kid - 07-01-2013

Okay 4-speed is mostly in the car, just need to tighten the top bolts and the starter bolts, put the driveshaft in, the shifter, and bleed the clutch, so hopefully I'll be able to drive the car again by the end of this coming weekend

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - lgreeley83 - 07-01-2013

Taking a while run into some snags?

Hmm, well I went on vacation for a week, and it's been 100+ outside for like the last two weeks so doing anything outside is just miserable

Oh shut up it's a dry heat. Now is the time to do anything involving interior trim-in that heat it will all flex, no risking snapped plastics

Unfortunately, it's not. The valley is humid man! From Bakerstown to Sacto on over to Salinas and them parts. Been working the last three and going right back for the next four weeks and I sure hope it settles down. Triple digies with high relative humidity SUXXORZ big time

Now outside the San Joaquin is a completely diff story and what most think of when considering the climate here. Either desert or mountains (and of course our world famous coastline) the weather typically behaves with keeping the moisture content looooooooow and comfy. ;-D

You're right about better working environment and more pliable materials. But who wants to wear a space suit to work on/in the car?

O ya almost forgot. WE NEED MOAR PICS! Vaca's over.

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - sassparilla_kid - 07-07-2013

I'll get some pics after the car is on the road and all cleaned out, so hopefully tomorrow or Tuesday. Unfortunately it looks like I don't get to finish the swap today, the replacement shifter bushings I bought are the wrong ones, so I'm gonna try to machine some tomorrow at work, then hopefully pop them in when I get home. We'll see how this new plan turns out

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - sassparilla_kid - 07-11-2013

Car is running and somewhat drivable, probably should re bleed the clutch, and the shift linkages are swapped, but it leaves rubber on the asphalt. So in the next day or two, hopefully I get those fixed so I can start driving it and wearing out my back tires lol

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - lgreeley83 - 07-11-2013

Inspect your diff bro before you start doing neutral drops. Don't want you to end up like me :-)

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - sassparilla_kid - 07-11-2013

The diff looked good when I had the back off when I swapped axles last year

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - sassparilla_kid - 11-14-2013

I need to win the lottery or something I think so I can continue work on this damn car, only things left on my list are turbo, intercooler, and pump (as far as performance mods go). So if anybody knows where I can get a T3/T4 ball bearing hybrid with .40 trim exhaust and .60 trim compressor that would be great, because I'm not having any luck finding one.

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - Simpler=Better - 11-14-2013

Craigslist buddy, if you wait it will appear. Then just save up for the pump

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - sassparilla_kid - 03-12-2014

Okay I want an hx30 for this thing badly, seriously considering just ordering one of the Chinese ones from fleabay, so I'll be able to turn the pump up a little. Right now not enough fuel to turn up the pump :/

I turned my pump up abunch before I switched to the hx30. Save your money and buy one from alcaid, he can get genuine turbos for cheap. And you will always be second guessing your Chinese turbo that you still paid half as much for or more.

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - sassparilla_kid - 03-14-2014

Yeah, probably gonna wait for a bit until after I get my truck up and running

RE: sassparilla_kid's 300D Turbodiesel - sassparilla_kid - 04-14-2014

This beezy is getting a roof rack! Already bought the towers, need to go to the hardware store and get some pipe for the cross bars, no way in Hell I was gonna pay $80+ for two pieces of pipe
