Thermostat stuck open, possibly? - MFSuper90 - 10-25-2011

I believe i read on here the om617's tstat opens at around 90c, and my car has only gotten to 90 once or twice.
And that was on like a 100F day

Is it possible that my tstat is stuck open? I dont mind it in the summer, but now thats it in the mid 50s and 60s it never even sees 80c.

Any ideas would be helpful,
thanks in advance,
Eric

It could be stuck open or just missing because of a previous repair?

Where is it at? Ill have to check and see if its still there. We did an engine swap in my car and who knows what the guy before me did to the tstat haha

It's in that weird aluminum deal on the passenger side front of the engine that connects to the radiator hose with 3 10mm bolts

Hmmm. ill definitly have to check that out. It sucks when its like 30 degrees out and the engine wont hardly get above 50 degrees celcius.
Ill look at it tonight and let you know what i find

good luck! make sure you use or make a gasket!

Don't use RTV silicone it breaks off over time and will clog up the rest of the cooling system

I asked at NAPA for a gasket and they told me it used an O ring when I took it apart it didn't! so at 9:00pm they where closed and I was screwed! I lucked out and found a roll of gasket material in my shop and made my own gasket and it' still working

Is the tstat the part connected to the neck? because that what i saw that was held on with three 10mm bolts.

If so, in that pic, mine doesnt have that round thing stickin up out of it. where it looks like that thing would screw in its just an empty pit.

hmmm Huh

The T stat should be behind the neck here's a better picture

Really?

The gasket should look like this.

RE: Thermostat stuck open, possibly? - willbhere4u - 10-29-2011

They gave me a large O ring which wasn't even close to working
