Nope and they are junk anyways. I have one at the shop right now that has 5 cylinders with broken rings. No liners so it has to be over bored. 2007 w/ 45,000mi on it.

yikes! did it just fail like that from heavy use? or was there a manufacturing issue with the rings? either way, 45,000 miles and 5 broken rings! jeebus!

They are junk. Same as the cummins 6.7. They run them hot for emissions and it causes issues. It's a updated 3126 that still uses a heui setup.

is the third valve equal to the size of the other two? i never understood the point of a 3 valve. seems to me like it would just make a restriction on one side of the engine.

I'll take a pic of it for you when I get back to the shop.

lol so does the third one act as both or something?

RE: Compatible? Caterpillar C7 Diesel 6 cylinder, 7.2 liter - larsalan - 10-06-2011

I thought odd numbers have more intakes and less exhaust.

RE: Compatible? Caterpillar C7 Diesel 6 cylinder, 7.2 liter - dieselboy - 10-06-2011

Another one just came in with the same problems.
Top and right are intake. Bottom is exhaust. They have 4 head bolts per cylinder. Granted they are like 7/8" but still a fail.

The reason for 2 smaller intake valves is that they can be packaged easier & flow more than 1 big one, also to promote swirl in the combustion chamber.
