MW pump options - wlockerb - 06-12-2011

I am starting this thread because i am having the same frustrations that everyone out there is suffering. I CAN"T FIND ELEMENTS FOR MY PUMP! I have seen the thread for ordering 10mm and 8mm elements for the mw pumps. I have been in direct contact with CHJ and 10mm elements have been on back order for 4 months now. I know people want them but we can't find them. What was the problem and how did others get them that have had success ordering them? Has anyone thought about having custom elements made? I know its possible but is it economically feasible? Anyone chime in here and help to throw out some part numbers that they KNOW are going to work with the mw pumps. I have a spare pump so I am more than willing to experiment I just need parts like everyone else!

Hi,

long time ago I made 6.5mm elements for MW but the interest was only 2-3 sets and it took quite some time until I sold the last set.
The cost was 75 EUR/element.
One option you have is to use a M pump with turbo governor and 7.5mm elements.
I have such a pump in progress but it is still in the diesel shop so no results up to now.
Maybe in the far future I will do something like 7.5 or bigger for MW but only if at least 5 sets are subscribed.

i think i would have trouble finding others that would spend that but its an option at least for us! Anyone else had any luck?

You can order 8mm elements for the Volvo? from european Bosch dealers. Check the chinese sites for the 8mm elements and what trucks they were used on. You can also just search here, there are some older threads about it.

RE: MW pump options - wlockerb - 06-15-2011

i just recieved an email from lisa at chinahanji and they are out of the 8mm elements as well and have no prodution orders pending so back to square one again. On another note, i am confused as to what part numbers will work because they list an mw thick and mw thin element. Anyone know if both will work or any other info? what about contact info for alternative vendors?

Shut down again guys. minimum order is 50 so not going to happen. I took the advice of an old teacher from my days in the automotive deptarment at ivy tech and call a place called oden machine. He said that they have made custom barrels and plungers before and he would have an answer for me. I called and was amazed at what he told me! He said he knows he could do 10 or 11mm plungers but that he thought a better route to go would be to use an A-pump off of a mercedes combine! He would probably have to regrind the cam for a 5 cylinder but thought the mounting was the same! He wants me to send my pump to him to be sure. I will definitely keep you all posted on this. Oh and by the way, he did say that if I went with the MW pump and 10mm plungers he could do it for around $700-800. Not to bad guys.........

RE: MW pump options - MTUPower - 06-22-2011

I think you'll find that 10mm is too large.

(06-22-2011, 08:35 PM)MTUPower I think you'll find that 10mm is too large.

I mentioned that but he said it isnt a problem to dial them down. He said that you may just have to retard the pump to compensate.

RE: MW pump options - randomdude - 06-24-2011

i asked this in the group buy thread but think i should ask it here instead. what size element is good for like 350wtq? with supporting mods of course.

i should have a MW in my '83 right? it has the square alda on top.

RE: MW pump options - wlockerb - 06-24-2011

Yes it should be an mw pump. 350tq isn't that hard to get honestly with a descent turbo you could get by with 6.5mm or 7mm plungers. The problem is they don't make them for the mw. All we have found is 10mm and then the problem is finding someone willing to work on it.

RE: MW pump options - randomdude - 06-24-2011

i thought tomnik had 7's? or is that for an M pump?

sorry im totally new to IP's. this is my first diesel.

RE: MW pump options - tomnik - 06-25-2011

(06-24-2011, 05:51 PM)randomdude i thought tomnik had 7's? or is that for an M pump?

In the past I had 6 and later 6.5mm for the MW.

For the M: there are the 7mm China/Italy and the Floyd 7.5mm

RE: MW pump options - wlockerb - 06-25-2011

Were they custom made?

RE: MW pump options - tomnik - 06-25-2011

except the 7mm (which were used in an old Ford Transit, mid 70's), yes.
