I need sedan 300DT and 280E VIN-numbers. - rolfi - 05-23-2011

Hello.

I'm putting a 300 turbodiesel engine in my 300D, and to get it completely legal I need to get it approved by the Norwegian road/vehicle authorities.

They want to know that the body of the 300D can handle the greater power of a turbodiesel engine (yes, seriously), so I was told to get documentation from a dealer if the 1980 300 Turbodiesel sedan with sunroof, as well as a 1980 280E with sunroof has the same PN for the body. They need to be US-spec.

To get the local dealer to compare part numbers for the body, I need a VIN-number from the mentioned models.

If someone has one of these models, I would greatly appreciate if you could write down your VIN either here, or in a PM.

Thank you.

Here is a VIN for a US spec 1984 300D turbo with sunroof, wrong year, but would this help?

We need to check on this, but im not sure if the sedan was available in 80 with a turbo engine in the US? I know the wagon was, when was the first release of the turbo sedan?

Thank you! Everything helps Smile

I'm spoiled with dealing with BMWs, where the parts catalog with part numbers, prices, cross references etc. is free and openly available on the internet. (And in English!).

According to wikipedia, the 300D Turbo sedan was released in 1981.

My impression is that certain things in the US are alot stricter than in Norway, but some things are also considered ok in the US, which almost leads to death sentence here.. (Not litterally Big Grin )

I am going to guess this car was manufactured on 12/83... Yes?

In the US, the turbo w123 300 series first appeared in the 1981 model year 300TD and then in the 1982 model year 300D, CD.

I'll get you mine. Mine is a 12/79 build 300sd with the sunroof etc...

Oh. There might be a issue. My 80 300sd is a w116. The 80 300d is a w123 iirc.

Another possibility is to find the part# for the raw body shell, and let the dealer search for it on their EPC...
OR if someone here has EPC, and can look up if a 1980 300D and a 1980 280E has the same part# for the body shell with sunroof. It seems like the dealer doesn't like working with things he won't get paid for, so I might as well get as much info as possible myself.

dieselboy: It won't help, as my car is a w123. But thanks anyways!
