turbo interchangability - larsalan - 05-07-2011

So my '82 w123 om617 had a garrett. That is a t3 exhaust? or what the heck is the terminology.
I am trying to sell the turbo to someone with an om603
will it be a good fit?

The exhaust flange from the manifold into the turbo is the standard T3. The outlet on both the 617 and 603 is some MB specific deal but should be the same on both. The Garrett, if stock on a 617 turbo, will actually be one size smaller on the compressor side (45 trim for the 617, 50 trim for the 603). It will most likely bolt right up, but will probably run out of oomph at higher rpm.

So the guy says he is interested to buy the turbo. Just wanted to see if anyone else knows how it will go trying to put it on an om603

The exhaust manifold should have the same t3 bolt pattern
The downpipe clamps should be the same or similar

what about the intake manifold line up? The turbo can be clocked but, will he be able to get it into the manifold without extra pipe and clamps etc?

what about the compressor inlet will there be any problem there?

oh sh!t
and the oil lines. Is that a kinda standard connection or no? Sorry I and it seems this guy are new to all this Wink

Says, it does not bolt right up. The wastegate it too close to that oil connection. And the exhaust to downpipe has a different distance. I dunno if he wants to work more at getting it to fit or not.
What size is that oil connection? Maybe there's some kind of plumping to fit in there?

He needs to clock the exhaust as well. The flange faces almost upward on the 603 instead of towards the engine. The oil drain needs to point down. Even then it might still interfere, it looks like the intake might bonk into the wastegate once you get everything twisted right.
