HOLY SH*T!!! I've been to Pikes Peak Hillclimb 3 times now and have very clear memories of those big rigs blasting past me at speed!! I gotta get back again... Cool

RE: Ken block step aside. - babymog - 04-05-2011

I have great memories of a 10-wheel-drive dual-engine class-8 truck drifting past us at Pikes Peak, ... awesome stuff.

That's the old El Toro Marine Air Station. Been there a couple of times a few years ago for a AutoCross event my buddy was in.

Here is a google shot of the hanger.

Kind of eery and sad going through that place of all the history.

What happened there DV?

RE: Ken block step aside. - DeliveryValve - 04-05-2011

(04-05-2011, 06:06 PM)garage What happened there DV?

That was the largest Marine Air base in the world. Open during WWII and closed in 1999. El Toro was home to many Marines, civilians, and aircraft through out the years.

Many people were effected by this closure. Loss of local jobs and loss of revenue to the area that the base provided.

There was a proposal to make a civilian Airport to relieve pressure from LAX, but but that never happened. Now it's supposed to be a residential area. But I don't see that happening soon because the economy sucks.

RE: Ken block step aside. - Imaginos - 04-06-2011

In 2006 he broke a Pikes Peak record, that still stands, in his class, with a Mercedes powered Freightliner.

why are there 1000 RVs there? are they using some of it as a self storage lot for RVs and boats? Some of the boats definitely look long term storage

RE: Ken block step aside. - Captain America - 04-08-2011

Oh I forgot to mention that this video is proof that High horsepower diesels make black smoke!

Someone was contesting that. I forgot who..

RE: Ken block step aside. - dieselboy - 04-09-2011

Wop 7.3 Powestroke 9.91 clean pass. No smoke on a high hp truck = nitrous lots of nitrous.

RE: Ken block step aside. - 300D50 - 04-09-2011

I'd much rather have high boost and a good IC than have to fill up on laughing gas to keep an engine clean running. But that's just me.

RE: Ken block step aside. - dieselboy - 04-09-2011

Well yeah. They are well over 1000hp on the spray though. I'd guess 800-900 #2 only That was a test and tune.

The problem is getting the flow from a large turbo and high boost and not smoking down low and yet having it still drivable.

If you want insane hp look at the pulling tractors with the dt466 engines. 2500-3000 hp smokeless. 3 monster turbos, 160psi+ boost, alcohol instead of diesel lol.

RE: Ken block step aside. - garage - 04-09-2011

HOLY CRAP, that thing really took off.....
like a bat outa hell

RE: Ken block step aside. - DeliveryValve - 04-09-2011

Oh Yeah the very black smoke IH DT466...
