propigskin wagon springs in my 300D sedan? - JB3 - 04-03-2011

I bought a set of these a while back, then got rid of the wagon. Rolleyes
(I think stan did this too) Big Grin

I still have them, and the rear suspension on my 84 300D is pretty tired with more than 2 people in it and id like to beef it up vs put the same type of spring in. The propig springs are almost the same diameter as a stock spring (right), but about an 8th bigger in width, and missing about 75% of a coil compared to the standard 300D springs.

If I put them in, im really curious how the sedan would sit, how far does the standard spring compress when installed? Will these thicker springs compress less and give me an overall similar ride height but with a stiffer suspension?

Im also not overly happy with the top part of the spring, I feel like that will cut through the rubber spring seat pretty quick, even with that piece of hose. Im thinking about making some kind of steel ring the the spring notches into, then sits more evenly into the rubber cup.

Any thoughts?

The two compared, propig on the left, standard replacement spring on the right

Definetly in inerested in seeing how a non-wagon will react and sit with them installed.

If they work out good, maybe ill pick myself up a pair

yeah i have a set of them sitting in my closet - i actually got them slightly longer than normal too! lifffftttt

if they can be fit on a sedan i would consider doing it, but if one of yall rally rats was interested i'd be happy to sell them instead.

What is the overall height of the wagon rear spring? I have a set of NOS rear vogtland springs in my garage- never installed as I have a wagon. Thinking I may install them on the wagon if the difference is not big.

ill get this info for you on thursday when I get back to my house, sorry about the delay, missed this response Blush

What I don't know is the height of a normal wagon spring, from the pics on propigs site, a wagon seems to sit up pretty nicely on these length springs

I'll take pics of the lugs if you measure the stock wagon rear springs!

The hose should allow the spring to have some cushion between the rubber spring cup isolator. The hose is also a heavy duty rubber with steel liner (similar to a hydraulic hose). I've never had any complaints in regards to worn isolators from any customers who have used the springs or in my own vehicles.

I am curious to see how the springs work out in your sedan! I would guess that your the vehicles ride height, hauling capabilities and cornering will improve. However, you might have a slightly rougher ride, but we will see. Let me know!

Blush 2 weeks later, sorry

I make the stock springs at 15 and 3/8ths tall
the Propig's at 14 and a quarter

Do you sell this hose? If so, how much? I have a set of progressive springs that I need to get new hose ends.

Your car (sedan) will definitely be jacked up in the rear ....

The springs I was mentioning are progressive type springs, not Propigskin springs, factory part number 123 324 35 04.

These type of springs will not jack up the rear. But as in your case, the Propigskin springs will!

Thinking hard about getting propigs for my w123. A friend of mine has a sagging w126 300SD. Will w123 spring work in it?

RE: propigskin wagon springs in my 300D sedan? - Greazzer - 06-04-2014

I put these in my W123 and I love them. You cannot use the Wagon height springs. HOWEVER, I would only cut 1/2 coil if you have the wagon springs. The sedan height should be around 13 1/4". You can always tinker with pad thickness. You can still go with an entire coil cut, but use 19mm pads. It will not be a low rider, but I was too picky about the look, so that is why I went with an additional inch.

Incredibly firm rear end ... lol ... when cornering.

Just an update on the beefier springs. Still going strong. One of the better mods I have done. Looking for the 15mm rear sway (torsion) bar now.
