OM602 - 190D Turbo performance upgrades? - TurboWalt - 03-23-2011

Hi,

Let me introduce myself to STD. I own a 1987 190D Turbo, it's totally stock at this time. I'd like to get some more power out of it. I'm willing to go down the road of changing the turbo, injectors, and pump. I know squeezing in an intercooler will be tough on the W201 but I'd like to go there if it can be done cleanly.

What I'd like to know is if there is anybody out there that has done these sort of upgrades to their OM602? What did you use and what were the results? Is there anybody in the states that can do pump work? I'm aware of Myna, I'm hoping to find somebody in the 48 states that can do similar work.

Thanks, Walter

I have a local shop (Dave's Diesel) who does 1000+ HP engines for racing, truck-pull, etc. They are familiar with the M-series and have done some work, are interested in working on a big-element pump for me (a couple of German car fans/owners in the shop also) and are a Bosch shop.

I'd imagine that there are many shops like Dave's Diesel across the country, who do big-horsepower engines for other applications and have the equipment and experience to apply to a Mercedes M-series pump (or MW).

hey tw, i envy you Blush

if you loose the engine driven cooling fan and find a low profile
electric replacement there will be plenty of room for an aftercooler,
something that should have been standard form MB!
also be sure to feed your turbo fresh, cooler high pressure air...

p.s.
i have an '84 om601 in good condition (complete wit injection pump) for sale with automatic transmission to boot.
