Sure Wish I Finished Training - ForcedInduction - 01-23-2009

Today's accident in the yard. The driver (obviously) cut the corner. No curb there, just a truck!

Damage tally: 2 trailer tires and entire Freightliner bumper, hood and headlight assemblies. ~$2500 (Not including labor)

RE: Sure Wish I Finished Training - totaldisaster - 01-28-2009

and you're poor schmuck that needs to fix all that.. idiots. Whats the rush?

RE: Sure Wish I Finished Training - ForcedInduction - 03-06-2009

This is an older accident but I figured I'd post it anyways.

He said he had never been to this terminal before. He was coming in to get two tires changed and he missed the entrance. What is the logical thing to do? Turn around. Instead of going 1/4 block further to a big cul-de-sac or driving around the block, he picked the tiny loop in front of the Colorado Cab Co.'s office.

First thing he did was scrape a yellow safety pole.

Did he stop? No.

He went on to run over a lamp pole.

Did he stop? No.

He ran over two of their bushes.

Did he stop? No.

The turn was getting too tight so he decided his left steer tire looked better painted yellow.

Did he stop? No.

Now he is really starting to panic. He can see the exit so he floors it and demolishes a second light pole, a yellow safety pole and 8ft of 3ft high concrete block wall.

Did he stop? YES! Why? The wall severed his red airline and the trailer brakes locked.

Total damage to the Cab company- over $5,000.

Total damage to the trailer- over $3,000, repair labor/time and the load being late for delivery.

We all know he was going to run away and claim something like "I picked up the trailer this way" or "I hit a deer". Rolleyes
The Cab Co. was cool about the whole thing and no charges were filed against the driver although, hopefully, he will never drive for the company again.

Here is a google maps picture of the area to give a better sense of scale.

Today, its two aretards that don't know how to use their brakes and one that is too absent minded to turn a crank handle.

Dumbass #1. Coming down I-70, he was probably concentrating on masturbating to his hardcore gay porno mag (unfortunately a common find in these trucks) looking up just in time to swerve and take out the corner of a slower moving semi trailer.

Dumbass #2 forgot to lower the legs on the 60,000lb trailer before pulling out (probably still thinking of his magazine too).

Dumbass #3 was also coming down I70 concentrating on his magazine and riding the brake pedal instead of using the jakes and watching his mirrors for a big cloud of smoke. Is it bad to let the brakes get hot enough to ignite the tires?

Thats all for now. I'm sure you won't have to wait long for the next installment.

RE: Sure Wish I Finished Training - DeliveryValve - 05-05-2009

Damn. Should I be worried every time I drive next to a Swift rig?

I wonder how much of the cargo got destroyed in that trailer pic?

Thanks for keeping up the series with new episodes. Big Grin And make sure you have surgical gloves on when you move one of the trucks.

RE: Sure Wish I Finished Training - ForcedInduction - 05-05-2009

#3 had most of the load secured up front. It had some smoke damage so technically it was a total loss.

This is kind of amazing; The fire was hot enough to melt aluminum and soften steel, but not enough to burn the treated oak floors.

I don't think Pete can do any worse damage with that... Big Grin

Good to have job security.

RE: Sure Wish I Finished Training - ForcedInduction - 05-08-2009

This guy backed into the fence not once, but four times. Unfortunately there was no witness and all the trailers have paint scraped off the bumpers, so this whodunit will go forever unsolved.

On the plus side, a spankin' new high capacity tanker came through today.

RE: Sure Wish I Finished Training - ForcedInduction - 05-09-2009

Pretrip fail.

I found this trailer while checking the yard. The driver was unaware his trailer had dangerous door frame damage. I didn't even realize how bad it was until I got it inside and inspected. The left door frame was cracked so bad that only 1" of metal and the sidewall panels was holding that frame together. The right side had more impact damage but it wasn't cracked as bad. Based on the rust, its been that way for at least several weeks so this driver wasn't the only one to not notice/care about it.

My repairs aren't amazingly pretty, but its a hell of a lot stronger and safer than it was!

Never underestimate the strength of booger welds.

RE: Sure Wish I Finished Training - ForcedInduction - 05-14-2009

Swift is going Mad Max!

This driver topped out his truck on a low bridge trying to reach the Pinon Truck Stop north of Pueblo. The repairs were temporary to get it back to Phoenix for bodywork.
The driver no longer works for swift.

RE: Sure Wish I Finished Training - ForcedInduction - 06-12-2009

Mechanic fail. Somebody on the day shift thought this would be a good way to get the short acetylene tank's valve above the retaining bar so it wouldn't hit it.

RE: Sure Wish I Finished Training - winmutt - 06-12-2009

Carpenters they are not.

RE: Sure Wish I Finished Training - ForcedInduction - 06-14-2009

Security seal fail.

RE: Sure Wish I Finished Training - winmutt - 06-15-2009

Where was my camera today. We went to go look at some CL goods, as we are getting off the exit ramp there was a road crew parked in the middle lanes to the left and to the right. A rig has missed the turn and was trying to drive around them to the right (into the oncoming traffic) and destroyed the front end of one of the 5ton road crew trucks (with the open hatch on the back like a tree crew or something). He just ripped off the whole front pass side of the truck and kept on going. My wife and I were just floored.
