Mercedes W115 240D, new engine? - ScareMercy - 12-22-2010

Hello,

I've been thinking about buying myself a '72 W115 240D with a manual 4-speed trans, and the shifter on the console(instead of on the steering wheel).
But! the engine has done a lot of miles, sow i'm thinking about a swap.
Can anyone tell me what is all possible with these cars? I'm thinking about a OM606A or a OM603A.
Will this fit? I haven't been able to find any info during my search regarding to these newer engine's. Only about the W123 engine in a W115.

Will i be facing big problems during a swap? like lack of space, homemade enginemounts(except for a spacer)? Is it possible to use the original 6 or 5 speed transmision?

Many thanks in advance

I think, the length is to much on the 603/606.Maybe a turbo 617.They have extremely good life span.Someone with more experience can add to this.

Welcome to the forum.

All post-W115 engines will require a remote oil filter. The 60x engines may not fit at all since the starter is in the same location as the steering box, but since the starter sits lower than the oil housing it may clear.
