big element pumps - mantahead - 12-15-2010

Hi guys, i am still working on c250 drift car. I am having no luck getting elements for my m pump. I have the older om602 pump. I have thought of using a 5 cyclinder deutz pump from air cooled engine. Does anyone know what size of elements is in one of these pumps.

RE: big element pumps - Jtn190D - 12-15-2010

I wouldn't think more then the M pump in the om602.

You can't buy (can't find) or don't want to buy?

Because if it is only can't buy (can't find) maybe Tomnik will hook you up with some Smile, right Tomnik?

Hi,
Dont want to buy? I have already tried to buy elements from Tomnik with no success. I got two numbers for myna that were wrong. I have been patient so where do i go from here? I need to try something.

RE: big element pumps - jeemu - 12-15-2010

How about we get you a 8mm pump with all good extra that those can get?

"no success" here means I'm still waiting for the delivery of the new production run. Promised for mid December, I got the information that the machine for matching the plunger to the barrel was down for maintenance last week.
In case somebody has the possibilities to get the elements manufactured faster, I am open for any support.

Tom

Don't need lots of fuel with HX35. Even the 7mm Mynä supplies more fuel than the current engine can burn.

Did you call +35824307180 or what?

RE: big element pumps - mantahead - 12-18-2010

hi guys,
i take it no one likes the idea of non MB pump on these engines or because no one has tried it yet no one cares. Could someone please put me out of my misery and tell me if this has ever been tried. I would like to try deutz pump on om605 but still haven't found out exact element size but should know by monday. Has anyone ever tried another pump on 6 cyclinder? IS THERE TO MUCH MONEY TO BE MADE MODIFYING MB PUMPS?

RE: big element pumps - 300D50 - 12-18-2010

You can try using a volvo pes6mw100 pump, and have the governor tweaked/exchanged for one from a benz spec MW(if possible). That gives 10mm and enough fuel to kill a horse.

6cyl pump in 5cylinder car?

RE: big element pumps - 300D50 - 12-18-2010

If you look at the post above mine, he asked if anyone tried another pump on a 6 cyl car.

Yes he did, but he also say at he planning pump OM605. So cant use pes6 Wink

RE: big element pumps - 300D50 - 12-19-2010

True, but I just answered the 6 cyl part. I can see how that could get confusing, I got confused myself! :p

hi,
sorry about the confusion, but i was asking about both 5 or 6 cyclinder
engines, just wondering if anyone had tried another pump. Thanks

RE: big element pumps - 300D50 - 12-20-2010

Yes, but I'll bet you could find a volvo pump cheaper than having a pump built up.
Also the decreased injection duration caused by pushing a larger volume of fuel per given time period could be a good thing as long as it doesn't put out the flame front.

RE: big element pumps - muuris - 12-20-2010

If you put a tractor/truck pump, your are still far from nicely working setup when you have the pump physically installed.

You'll have to heavily modify the governor, or you'll end up with less power than stock as your engine just won't rev. I believe the gov.spring of that kind of pump is quite stiff (as is with Merc M pump), so you'll have to lighten the counterweights. You'll want a weak spring that is highly pre-loaded. Without a pump bench this is very time consuming (putting pump in car, testing, taking it out, put another spring in, pump back in car, still not good, take it out again etc..).

If this was about saving money or getting a nearly-plug-n-play garage pump solution without changing elements or else, then think twice..

RE: big element pumps - 300D50 - 12-20-2010

While it is a pain to do, it is a possibility that some might look into. It would be cheaper initially for sure, and some people have more time than money and would like messing around.
I'm not saying it's better than refitting new plungers in an existing pump, but that it's doable.

RE: big element pumps - Einar - 12-20-2010

If you can find the bosch pump number from det Deutz, We can tell you the size of the plungers.

hi,
i have seen a pump a guy uses for tractor pulling,it has 14mm elements. It was sent to holland and they remove large governor housing at back of pump and replace it with a smaller one to let it rev higher. It has adjustable screw coming out the back of housing. I take it this is external adjuster for the governor. I think they use smaller counterweights with this governor housing. He reckons this pump
is good for 7000 rpm.

hi,
it would be nice to try another pump with bigger elements as standard maybe to prove that it can work for cheaper money, but on the other hand might not be cheaper. I like to explore other options other than expensive pumps, the worst that can happen is it wont work.

Hi Manta,

Give Eddie Terlouw at Terlouw diesels in the Netherlands a call. http://www.terlouw.nu/uk/index.htm He speaks perfect English and they are a font of knowledge as regards tuning Merc diesels. We have sent a few big Scanias and Dafs over to be optimised/tuned and they came back with excellent results. The drivers reported superior performance and pulling power and the fuel usage improved into the bargain. I have seen a few campers with Merc mechanical diesel engines they have done and they went like scalded cats! In once case, the owner couldn't get to use 5th gear(manual) due to the lack of power. After Terlouws over hauled his pump and injectors his engine now performs like a V10! He is now looking for a 6 speed gearbox as his engine revs out in 5th. They must also modify the pumps and injectors as the fitter who removed and refitted one of their pumps said it was timed to different settings
Well worth a call and tell him what your requirements are with your drift car. They also have their modifications checked on their in house dyno. Keep us posted how you get on.
