Wow! Looks like you've got quite the project to dive into! I've seen a 352 before, but tats the first 314 I've seen. Direct injection though, nice score.

How are you going to get it back home?

RE: '79 o309d motoroam om314 - winmutt - 01-07-2009

Drive it. Plan is now to drive down with 2 buddies on a fri night and spend weekend trying to get it road ready.

RE: '74 o309d motoroam om314 - winmutt - 01-30-2009

This is a L508D not an O309D (same chassis different uses).

This is the weekend to see it!

There is one of those turbo OM 314s for sale here in Portland if you want me to look at it for you.

Spray some ether into it! Big Grin

RE: '74 o309d motoroam om314 - winmutt - 02-02-2009

I was Sad, it is sucking in air somewhere as the return line had air constantly coming out. Lift pump? Primer pump?

RE: '74 o309d motoroam om314 - ForcedInduction - 02-02-2009

Probably a rotted fuel line.

RE: '74 o309d motoroam om314 - winmutt - 02-02-2009

There was a rubber line between the engine and the hard line going to the tanks. I spliced in here and ran it off a 5 gal tank of diesel. You know there was a fuel line coming off the back of the head that went to a T right where the rubber line split off. This hose was rotted and one I didn't run into the can. I'll have to read the FSM.

I have a 1986 Motoroam with an OM352 motor, etc. My question is where did you find the data plate that is in German? I have crawled around this RV and nothing so far.

Thanks,
S

RE: '74 L508D Motoroam Monarch OM314 - winmutt - 05-31-2011

I finally found someone that was more deranged than I. I realized the full intensity of his derangement when he showed up with a f150 and a car trailer. I didnt have the heart to take a pic of the trailer buckled but needless to say the RV made it about 200ft downhill from my house in an empty lot.

RE: '74 L508D Motoroam Monarch OM314 - willbhere4u - 05-31-2011

did you get it running?

RE: '74 L508D Motoroam Monarch OM314 - Riverstick - 08-18-2011

I worked on those 508D's 20 odd years ago.....Bombproof reliability in a nutshell....I've seen several cover 600,000kms without an issue....Very simple straight forward machine and the OM314 was a brilliant engine....They were very popular as 25 seater mini coaches around here....It should be a very simple project to get right mechanically..

RE: '74 L508D Motoroam Monarch OM314 - winmutt - 08-18-2011

Never got it running, rebuilding the pump was $$$. The new owner has emailed me and said it has new subflooring and the pump was in the shop.

RE: '74 L508D Motoroam Monarch OM314 - Riverstick - 08-18-2011

I never ever saw an injector pump give trouble in one....what was wrong with it.........I remeber pulling OM314's & OM352's out of the bushes and getting them working with very little work....We used to run the OM352's to 800,000-1,000,000kms without any great problems...and after that we used to export them to Africa and the third world still running
