RE: Test drove a 2011 WRX today. - willbhere4u - 12-03-2010

lol I want one! but it's out of my $ range

RE: Test drove a 2011 WRX today. - Biohazard - 12-03-2010

Heh. I work at a Subaru Dealership up here in WA. Those are a fun, fun time if you get a chance to really drive one. I used to have an 02 WRX with a few mods, used to love that car. I miss it every time it snows! Tongue Now I have a $150 1990 Legacy wagon that I use for automotive abuse (i.e. rallycross). Cool

RE: Test drove a 2011 WRX today. - winmutt - 12-03-2010

My buddy has an 03 he traded in for a cts - v (whats not to like about a caddi with a vette engine and 6 speed stick?). It was tuned up pretty good and put out around 380. Lots of fun. Once he loaded up the clutch pretty good and dumped it on a 5.0 mustang. Stick in mud, we were half way down the block before the mustang moved a foot.

RE: Test drove a 2011 WRX today. - Biohazard - 12-03-2010

Yeah, I've heard those cts-v Caddi's are a sleeper... Sounds like a fun recipe though!

RE: Test drove a 2011 WRX today. - Silberpfeil - 12-04-2010

Hat off to John Heinricy for putting the team together to make Cadillac a "world standard" again-first with their race cars (years ago) and also a stint as a driver in the Corvette C5-R program (1999) and now to make the CTS-V a true contender in the world of super sedans. I'll still take a MTM Audi RS-6 Avant Clubsport (older version please) but.... you gotta admire the guy.

I love WRXs guys and convinced a two time Maxima owner and Nissan loyalist to consider getting a WRX once the rumor was starting of them finally coming to America. I'm sure he would have bought an R34 Skyline but couldn't swing it. Last I knew he was getting another one and keeping his pale yellow one (the 400 first in country-only color available) to his daughter. I think I'm so lunatic fringe though I'd prefer a Lancia 037. Rear wheel drive-rear engined rally car or many of the other Gruppe B monsters. I must say I also am good friends with a 2006 WRX STi owner that is making at least 430 hp. I'll upload video when I finally get back in that thing.

I also have to say that you guys have got to drive a BMW 335d (diesel) just to experience that engine. It almost seemed to make Jeremy Clarkson happy and he is loathe for diesels (about the only thing I don't care for with him)

And... last but not least the glorious Noble M400 or the newer version the Rossion Q1. Without a doubt my favorite road car experience ever. You must-- I repeat must drive one of these if you ever get a chance. The only thing that handles more purely is a Lotus Elise (at the time) and a M400 has 400 hp per tonne!!

Sorry to be long winded but hope some of you enjoyed it...

RE: Test drove a 2011 WRX today. - Captain America - 12-04-2010

The CTS-V is a Corvette with a Cadillac body on it.

I drove both the Z06 and the CTS-V at the GM test drive thing at Edwards air force base and it was insane. They have you accelerate form a dead stop to like 80 mph then brake hard into a hairpin then through a slalom ... Both cars were almost identical, the Cadd only had a little more weight to throw around but it handled very close to the Vette. If I couldn't get the ZR1 Vette I'd have a hard time deciding between a Z06 and a CTS-Z. How can you beat a Vette that seats 5, smokes a lot of other factory cars, and has a 556hp/551tq numbers?
P.S. I hate subaru's

RE: Test drove a 2011 WRX today. - willbhere4u - 12-04-2010

It's hard to believe that a Cadillac can keep up with my turbocharged lotus Elise! Insane!

Not a fan of the flat-4, sounds like its got a misfire.
What they need to do is use the 3.0L flat-6 with a pair of turbos.

RE: Test drove a 2011 WRX today. - Captain America - 12-06-2010

The flat 4 does sound like ass. Haha literally.

RE: Test drove a 2011 WRX today. - winmutt - 12-06-2010

I <3 the boxster engine, I think they sound kick ass. Another successful Benz design.

RE: Test drove a 2011 WRX today. - 300D50 - 12-06-2010

I'm waiting for someone to make a dual-V style engine, like a bowtie... ><

If done right, you could still keep that "who steamrolled my car from the bumper to the windshield????" look that subies have! Tongue

RE: Test drove a 2011 WRX today. - willbhere4u - 12-06-2010

I love that Subaru burble!
I was thinking of removing the muffler off my 96 outback 2.2 just to here that sound!

but then again I'm also a sucker for sound of a rotary with no exhaust!

I really want to put a 13B turbo in my outback and have some AWD rotary madness!

RE: Test drove a 2011 WRX today. - 300D50 - 12-06-2010

Forget the outback, put it in the back of a tube frame with a SRT4's 5-speed Big Grin

Oh, and where's "here"? If it's in NY I'd consider helping wrench a 13B in...

RE: Test drove a 2011 WRX today. - willbhere4u - 12-06-2010

I just want to pull up to a Subaru gathering with my stock looking out back sounding like this

RE: Test drove a 2011 WRX today. - 300D50 - 12-06-2010

Easy, super quiet mufflers and 13KW speaker system playing a loop :p

These are about as close as you'll get to that, but they both have 16 cylinders.

I'll take the first one delivered to my door with all the trimings...I can put it on the national debt...

RE: Test drove a 2011 WRX today. - willbhere4u - 12-06-2010

I"ll take the second for my riding lawn more! I'll call it a BRMdeer

Benz held the first patent. (which I didnt know till I wiki'ed it).

RE: Test drove a 2011 WRX today. - Biohazard - 12-07-2010

If you've never heard a pissed off Subaru turbo rally car running race gas, anti-lag, and open exhaust you are truely missing out. The sound is awesome!

RE: Test drove a 2011 WRX today. - Captain America - 12-07-2010

So does a NASCAR spec V8

You know I think a W design (aka VW, Bugatti Veyron) is more practical due to its compact nature. Especially when you are using a 15 degree block (VR-6)
Hey FI good to see someone else familiar with the BRM!!!

As Nick Mason said it was like the Victorians trying to reach the moon. And he also said that it was as expensive to drive per foot as the the most expensive Wilton wool carpeting. But when you create a 16 cylinder supercharged 1.5 liter engine in the fifties you gotta' expect a big learning curve!

After the 1.5 v16! They made an H16 basically to flat 8 siting on top of each other witch is what that pic above is!

Here is a pic of the 1.5 v16 with superchargers! in a car

I.E. the Impreza LM engine (I believe)
throw it into a Impreza full works WRC rally car

and you're talking some fun!

NOT a full blown WRC car, but here ya go. I don't believe they are allowed over 2.0L in WRC.
