Whats the difference between a motor oil filter and a diesel filter. - cannonballSDL - 11-27-2010

Motor oil filters are easier to find in remote locations. im thinking of making a banjo bolt for a STP S8A filter, yes its a v8 mustang filter. But they sell them at walmarts and even gas stations making them stupidly easy to get when traveling long distance, and maybe it could be a life saver if i run into some bad diesel some where(central american maybe?Big Grin )

i have a fuel water separator, but i cant find any other info saying i cant do this. I had a isuzu NPR that i did this with for a short time( i used infiniti G35 filters) and it worked well.

as usual any valid info is accepted and welcomed!

Thanks guys

Hmm....

The main difference is in the level they filter to...

A Motor-oil filter seldom goes below about 30uM and a Diesel filter is around 10uM (for the M.B.)

So what may be an idea in your case would be to Add a easy-to-get Oil filter Upstream of the original proper Diesel filter. The oil-filter being the catch-all and the finer diesel filter taking out anything left...

I think it would do the desired job you're after, so long as you keep the proper diesel filter too...

Would the IP have a tuff time pulling through two different filters?

Nah, I dont think so. The Lift-pump supplies Pressure to the std. filter so I'm thinking to cut the new additional filter in upstream of that and after the lift-pump....

Prob easiest way and minimal messing with the original fuel circuit...

The oil filter would be good as a primary filter, but the micron size is much too large to be the only filter.
As said, oil filters are usually 20-30micron while fuel filters are in the 2-10 range.
