That HI tuned one's pretty! Is that aftermarket?

RE: 617 Exhaust Manifold Thread. - garage - 09-04-2010

Where did that Hi Tuned manifold come from?

RE: 617 Exhaust Manifold Thread. - ForcedInduction - 09-05-2010

eBay several years ago. I haven't been able to find any information on it and the seller didn't know anything about its source either.

RE: 617 Exhaust Manifold Thread. - garage - 09-05-2010

Thats an awesome find forced!
Seems like your always coming across the cool shit.Tongue

Wow, welded straight to the cast manifold .... That's interesting! Don't think I've seen that done before...

RE: 617 Exhaust Manifold Thread. - ORION_theArcher - 09-09-2010

I've heard that steel to cast requires a low hydrogen welder for proper bonding. But if anyone knows of where to find another 617 turbo hi tuned manifold is pm me, I will buy one.

RE: OM Exhaust Manifold Thread - ben2go - 09-14-2010

OK.Which manifold and turbo is best for a stock 84' OM617 with only IP tweeks and a free flowing exhaust?I'm looking for direct bolt on from another common Mercedes engine.Maybe the original is best?

RE: OM Exhaust Manifold Thread - ForcedInduction - 09-15-2010

Intake and exhaust manifolds from a 78-79 300SD. They eliminate the EGR completely and the exhaust manifold flows more freely due to larger passages.

RE: OM Exhaust Manifold Thread - ben2go - 09-15-2010

Thanks.That's good info.

RE: OM Exhaust Manifold Thread - winmutt - 10-19-2010

om603 euro on ebay now http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mercedes-exhaust-manifold-w210-210-e300-TD-E300TD-/220679308490?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item33618304ca#ht_500wt_922

RE: OM Exhaust Manifold Thread - George3soccer - 10-19-2010

looks to me like a 606 manifold, hence the triangular k turbo flange.

RE: OM Exhaust Manifold Thread - muuris - 10-19-2010

(10-19-2010, 01:51 PM)winmutt om603 euro on ebay now http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mercedes-exhaust-manifold-w210-210-e300-TD-E300TD-/220679308490?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item33618304ca#ht_500wt_922

That's clearly OM606 manifold. Triangular turbo flange and wide exhaust valve ports.

RE: OM Exhaust Manifold Thread - willbhere4u - 10-19-2010

Interesting maybe I need to look at a om606 turbo to replace my Rajay turbo on my 240d turbo???

RE: OM Exhaust Manifold Thread - ConnClark - 10-19-2010

(09-15-2010, 05:08 AM)ForcedInduction Intake and exhaust manifolds from a 78-79 300SD. They eliminate the EGR completely and the exhaust manifold flows more freely due to larger passages.
Are you sure that the later manifolds didn't narrow up the passages to keep the velocity up on the exhaust gasses to spool the turbo at lower rpms?

RE: OM Exhaust Manifold Thread - ForcedInduction - 10-19-2010

Thats exactly what they did because the EGR steals exhaust.

RE: OM Exhaust Manifold Thread - ConnClark - 10-20-2010

(10-19-2010, 07:59 PM)ForcedInduction Thats exactly what they did because the EGR steals exhaust.

So would you agree a 79 manifold gives better topend power due to better flow while an 82+ manifold with the EGR capped would give better lowend power due to better spooling?

RE: OM Exhaust Manifold Thread - ForcedInduction - 10-20-2010

No. With the EGR capped you still have the volume of the tube to fill and the turbulence created by the port.

RE: OM Exhaust Manifold Thread - Greg-MT - 10-22-2010

I'm new here today.

I have an original 240d TURBO KIT new, still in the box..

It is the last one the Wolf Fengler built. What's it worth, anybody interested?

Too bad this will not fit on the 617.

RE: OM Exhaust Manifold Thread - ben2go - 10-24-2010

Would heat transfer cause issues and gasket failures using a one piece flange on a OM617?By one piece, I mean all exhaust ports and intake ports on one single flange.

RE: OM Exhaust Manifold Thread - yankneck696 - 10-24-2010

I can definitely see gasket issues with that.

RE: OM Exhaust Manifold Thread - ben2go - 10-26-2010

Thanks. That was my thoughts but wasn't 100% sure.

RE: OM Exhaust Manifold Thread - ForcedInduction - 10-27-2010

Thats why Mercedes designed the larger 4-part gasket to replace the original flat metal gasket.

RE: OM Exhaust Manifold Thread - ben2go - 10-27-2010

What are the factory OM617 gaskets made of?Do copper or aluminum ones work well on a turbo diesel?I've only used aluminum and copper on gassers.Great success there.

RE: OM Exhaust Manifold Thread - yatzee - 04-13-2012

does anyone have a part number for the non-EGR, Non-trap ox om603 manifold?

RE: OM Exhaust Manifold Thread - aaa - 04-13-2012

Two pieces. 6031402109,6031422202.

RE: OM Exhaust Manifold Thread - JustPassinThru - 04-14-2012

I pulled the exhaust manifold today from a 1987 300SDL, on the way to pulling its (KKK) turbocharger. Part numbers are:

4-runner piece: 603 142 14 02
2-runner piece: 603 142 18 02

I can post pictures of it on Monday.

RE: OM Exhaust Manifold Thread - willbhere4u - 04-15-2012

please do was it the type with 3 parts?

like this?

RE: OM Exhaust Manifold Thread - JustPassinThru - 04-15-2012

>> was it the type with the trap ox pipe?

Dunno; there was no trap ox on it. It had, and I pulled, that fat aluminum-heat-wrapped pipe with a round two-bolt flange on one end and a T3 flange on the other, looking like the arrangement on the engine that NO_SPRK is selling. I'm nibbling at the idea of making a T3-to-GT2256V adapter out of its ends, or maybe even using it as-is.

I actually did pull this car's intake manifold about a month ago, to get at the injector lines, but did not keep it, and the i.m. was gone yesterday. I *presume* that it was an EGR car, being a 1987, but...I don't have the parts at hand to look at, they are up at my mom's house 70 miles away...you know, come to think of it...I did not see an actual EGR on it yesterday. The e.m. has a bolt hole with a bolt in it, not a banjo bolt, just a blind bolt, but seemed to have no EGR inlet duct. I was more focussed on the turbo itself and it simply did not occur to me to look for an EGR. Didn't check the i.m. a month ago, either--it was simply an obstacle in the way of the injector lines. Can't go back and look now, they crushed the car as soon as I was done with it. I'm going up to my mom's house tomorrow night, will post pictures of the e.m. then.

(04-15-2012, 06:48 PM)willbhere4u please do was it the type with 3 parts?

Yes, that's it...I *think*; I had to pry on the accordion coupling between the 4-runner and 2-runner sections, in order to wiggle it loose enough from the 2-runner section --actually, I pried on both ends of it--, so I could swing the 2-runner section down (or up, I forget which) and out enough to get at the turbo bracket bolts (or nuts, I forget which) and at the bolts which hold the forward area of the cylinder head's heat shield on. Forgive the inexactness, it was a bear of a job. One step at a time, and smoke a cigarette and recover my wits after every half-dozen nuts/bolts or so. Used up half a can of PB Blaster. RE: OM Exhaust Manifold Thread - DeliveryValve - 06-30-2012

Been meaning to post this. Had this 617 turbo manifold sitting around, some aftermarket T4 flange type I never seen before. I pulled it from a 1979 300D with a Rajay Turbo attached to it.

Pictures compare the Non-EGR vs this T4 aftermarket. Anybody recognize it?

RE: OM Exhaust Manifold Thread - Hercules - 06-30-2012

Picked up one each of these a few months ago. Will need to use a angle adapter to clear intake manifold if using a more modern turbo, which is highly suggested. Seen a few of these turbos in operation, little boost until high rpms.
Going with this set up soon. I like the exhaust separation, think it would flow a little better . The intake is much shorter than the 115 intake but may be better in slowing back pulses. Possible more torque mid to higher rpms, and a little more lower than stock.
What do you think ? Have the 115 set up also. Which one, Why?

RE: OM Exhaust Manifold Thread - DeliveryValve - 06-30-2012

Really? The exact same unit? Where did you get it or what year car you pulled it from? I too think it's going to flow well. The T4 outlet is huge, thinking maybe brazing in a divider up to the reducer adapter plate for a T25 flange or to what ever VNT I might use.

willbhere4u has some info on the Manufacturer. He says it's a BSA Turbo Kit.

Here is pictures of the intake and Will's post of the manufacturer.

RE: OM Exhaust Manifold Thread - Hercules - 06-30-2012

Same ones. Had listed on E-bay for a few weeks,no takers,so decided to use. Areas that need some attention . Ported exhaust, opening # 2-3 wall at#1 tube entrance, try to slant wall towards exit. Also #3-4 near turbo entrance, while smoothing and directing exit area, than surface all mating areas. Divider plate good Idea!
Found these at a local pick and pull yard. On a early 300d.

RE: OM Exhaust Manifold Thread - DeliveryValve - 07-01-2012

Thanks for the info. I'll look into your suggestions on porting it. Best I can do for a flow test is to spray pressurized water through the ports and see how the water flows through it.

Regarding your earlier question as to whether to use it or the 115 intake, I agree with your assessment. Good mid-range to high end with this intake. Better than stock for low end, but not better then the 115. But I would love to see the actual bench flow numbers on this intake. I would guess the 115 would have the better combined all RPM range flow because of the long runners and gradual bends. The BSA intake has an almost 90 degree bend into the cylinder head, which I think would hinder flow. I do believe it is still far better then the stock intake manifold.

I don't think with the BSA exhaust manifold, the turbo would clear the 115 intake. Then again, I could be wrong. In the end between the two, I think I'm eventually will go with this BSA intake.
