Hello I am new to the forum and new to MB diesel. I am trying to get a hold of a photo with the location of the mounting point of the IP and which direction to rotate to retard the timing on my 1985 300SD.

turn the IP to BOD position and install it in such a way that the bolts are in the middle of the long holes while the engine position is at 24-25 deg BTDC.
If you are in front of the engine the sense of rotation is cw, now imagine turning the body of the IP, think about it and you will find out that towards the block is advance (IP body ccw).
