Gasser conversion, remove CIS fuel pump? - HughF_UK - 08-06-2010

So I got thinking last night, when I swap the petrol engine out for the 606, I'm going to need to remove the CIS pressure pump that's under the boot floor area..... or am I?

I've always thought an electric pre-pump would be a good idea for bleeding fuel through to the IP, but I guess that the CIS pump being about 60psi+ would be too high pressure to feed straight into the M series pump. Perhaps I should feed a standard fuel pressure regulator with it, then dump the return into the return line?

I know the P series cummins pumps seem to like a high fuel input pressure, what is the general concencus about this on the M series pumps?

Cheers all,

Hugh

In my application I removed the gas pumps and put in the diesel lines with the stock lift pump. But after doing that spoke with a few other diesel gurus and they said that I should have left one pump on the line to the ip.

That's my plan... I've got a gasser parts wagon that I'm going to take the CIS pump off of and put on my wagon when the time comes.

I suggest leaving it in, especially since you want to make some power.

In addition, the fuel pressure within the pump body will be determined by the pressure relief setting on the fuel outlet banjo bolt.

Having the electric pump also makes any injection pump work/swaps, setting BOD, and fuel filter changes a breeze.

It seemed to tick all the right boxes, leaving it in. Interestingly, ford fit an electric pre-pump to the 125hp mk6 transit with the vp44 pump. My 90hp mk6 with a vp37 doesn't have one...
