Coupe Springs - bgkast - 03-19-2008

I heard the coupes had progressive springs, can anybody confirm this? Would this be a worthwhile upgrade? What would the best way to remove springs in the junk yard? Can it be done with all limbs intact with no spring compressor? Confusedhock:

Yes they do. You can spot them easily as the coils get more compressed towards the top. My old euro taxi had them and handled fantastically. I am even thinking about going back to them over the Vogtlands (in the rear only). You will need a jack to remove them without a spring compressor. Cut the brake hose, unlink the sway bar remove the shock and then lower.

Bummer, it seems the the springs from a 300CD are not progressive. These were removed from a '83.

Re: Coupe Springs - winmutt - 04-28-2008

They most certainly are progressive, Those are the wrong springs. I had them on my old W123.

This is what the should look like:

I have considered removing the vogtland rears and putting them in. I have never been happy with the rear springs from Vogtland. The progressive coupe springs were great compared to stockers.

Re: Coupe Springs - bgkast - 04-28-2008

Those are stock springs from a '83 300CD that were removed to install Vogtlands. Maybe your old car had some aftermarket springs, or maybe the diesel coupes did not get the progressive springs that Gasser coupes did.

You might be right about the gasser according to this chart:

Looks like 123.324.06.04 might be the progressive. Someone with a parts fiche can verify?
