A Mercedes 5-speed that will bolt up to the OM617.xxx is very hard to find. That is why I am adapting a Tremec 5-speed.

Dropnosky made his own from two transmissions, see his thread...

If you find an actual factory one it could cost you as much as $1500 for a shot one that needs a rebuild. Might as well adapt something or go for it and do the tremec thing like Rudolf_Diesel.

The non turbo euro 300d had 5spd available

The fly wheel is also very desirable from the 300d 5spd cars!
It weighs more that the one from the 240d it will also work but not as well

does the gasser ilines trans bolt pattern the same ?

RE: where to find a 5sp for a 617 in a w126 - aaa - 07-21-2010

ilines?

Certain gassers, 280e (m110) etc use the same bellhousing. Too bad they're also too rare.

m102 is a no go btw.

A 240d om616 4cyl is the same engine as a 300 om617 5cyl minus one cylinder exact same trans mounting and a lot more!

ok so the rare m110 inline six bolts up and is hard to find , i know the 240d 4 sprrd bolts up , but what other engines share the 617 so wheather its rare or not i was just interested in what manual transmissions from what engines or models fits our bolt pattern i have a friend in germany which might be able to get the thing for me but either way i would be interested to have this information

does a 615 diesel in the same chassis 200D share the bolt pattern? Your friend needs to look for 5-speeds out of 300D NA, 200D (maybe?), 240D (maybe?), and 280Es with the M110 engine as known targets.

Those would probably be the most likely cars to find a 5-speed in. Basically, it seems you might be limited to 4 possible engines and thats it. Id also look into whatever euro delivery vehicles these engines were also put in. It feels unlikely that a mercedes van or truck would have a 5-speed over a 4-speed, but its worth looking into as well.
