I'll put $10 towards a dyno run

RE: Captain's '82 300D - Captain America - 02-18-2014

(02-18-2014, 09:50 AM)Simpler=Better I'll put $10 towards a dyno run

Put $10 towards a pyro gauge so I can turn the fuel up moar, Lol. This VDO I have is lame and takes forever to move.

I can tell you my butt dyno senses a significant power improvement already. I hastely turned the fuel up to make it to the King of the Hammers race and basically turned it up to just before it tried to run away. I need to go back in and turn the fuel up a lot more and tune to get my return to idle where it needs to be.

Id easily say im up more than 50tq and more than that on HP

It was funny last night a dude in a Civic tried to race me... Haha poor guy

RE: Captain's '82 300D - Simpler=Better - 02-18-2014

Auber ins gauge is the price of a tank of fuel...or arduino like winmutt.

or borrow a multimeter that accepts K type thermocouple inputs

Good call. I'll give my multimeter a shot tomorrow

I am unsure what Greezer installed. I know that he said they were some of the last genuine Germany Monarks he had left.

RE: Captain's '82 300D - Greazzer - 03-04-2014

Yup, last of the pre-merger with DES "Dresdner Einspritz Systeme". That was a while ago. I thought you installed them ?

Post up some vids of the off road madness and hill climbing dude!!

RE: Captain's '82 300D - sassparilla_kid - 02-02-2015

Fyi everybody, Captain lincoln locked his diff and put some gnarly offroad tires on in preparation for King of the Hammers

RE: Captain's '82 300D - turbojeep - 02-07-2015

Cap, the masses need visual updates man! What tires did you end up throwing one? I've had my AT2s on for over a year and love them, but my 300SDL is going to need some tire love shortly. Hoping to make it out to Hammer Town next year.

You didn't happen to take any measurements when you were welding the diff did you? Curious to see if a lunchbox locker from a different aplication could be made to work.....

RE: Captain's '82 300D - sassparilla_kid - 02-07-2015

I talked to him yesterday so hopefully he updates when he gets a chance, he also built some HD tie rods

RE: Captain's '82 300D Coal Roller Purists Must Die Prius Repellent - Captain America - 02-23-2015

FUCK MY LIFE WHERE DO I START WITH THE UPDATE >>>>>>>>>> Huh

RE: Captain's '82 300D Coal Roller Purists Must Die Prius Repellent - Captain America - 02-24-2015

Well heres when I towed a 5000lb F1shitty (from the trunk hook) 10 miles on the frwy haha

RE: Captain's '82 300D Coal Roller Purists Must Die Prius Repellent - Captain America - 02-24-2015

On time on the way to work (I manually shift every gear because I hate this fucking 722 trans) I got stuck in 1-2 gear..... Hydraulically.... Mechanically I could put in park and the pawl would catch but the car still wanted to drive forward and no reverse! Yay! So I pulled the pan and found the pin from the rooster comb was not in the orange thing... was broken. stupid plastic. So I figured some shit out with the resources I had and made an aluminum version. It will soon jam and break again As I found out. the aluminum had was not large enough diameter

RE: Captain's '82 300D Coal Roller Purists Must Die Prius Repellent - Captain America - 02-24-2015

Weighed it!

RE: Captain's '82 300D Coal Roller Purists Must Die Prius Repellent - Captain America - 02-24-2015

Went offroading with that F1shitty and of course it fucking broke so now I had 4 ppl in my car and I was draggin ass everywhere! Well folded up fuel lines so made some fresh ones.

RE: Captain's '82 300D Coal Roller Purists Must Die Prius Repellent - Captain America - 02-24-2015

This is how you change guide rod (radius arm) bushing, no?

RE: Captain's '82 300D Coal Roller Purists Must Die Prius Repellent - Captain America - 02-24-2015

I started to make an aluminum coolant expansion tank because Plastic SUCKS! ... but I haven't finished it yet...

RE: Captain's '82 300D Coal Roller Purists Must Die Prius Repellent - Captain America - 02-24-2015

Remember I said the trans broke again. fuuuuu Well I fixed it moar better this time!

RE: Captain's '82 300D Coal Roller Purists Must Die Prius Repellent - Captain America - 02-24-2015

Enough for tonight guys, I'll be back in a day or two to finish this crap thanks to Sassparilla_Kid

Where did you tie your water lines for the A/W intercooler?

Do you have a separate heat exchanger for that?

Have not yet plumbed mine but very very soon. refer to here: http://www.superturbodiesel.com/std/showthread.php?tid=292&pid=26254#pid26254

RE: Captain's '82 300D Coal Roller Purists Must Die Prius Repellent - Captain America - 02-26-2015

Mine will be plumbed similar but I don't think I will be moving the stock expansion tank...

LIVIN' THE DREAM!!

Looks awesome!

RE: Captain's '82 300D Coal Roller Purists Must Die Prius Repellent - Mylesofsmyles - 02-26-2015

you lost me in that drawing...

RE: Captain's '82 300D Coal Roller Purists Must Die Prius Repellent - wolverine - 02-27-2015

Yeah, I'm real lost there too.  Thats the worlds most complicated air/water plumbing I've ever seen.

I would suggest not using the factory ac condenser as the heat exchanger, the tube size is way to small for flow.  If your using a bosch pump with 3/4 hose you'll want a fin or bar/plate type HE, or a single tube type cooler with 3/4 tubing.

I tend not to listen to that forced induction guy, for someone who thinks hes an expert, his installs look like a hookers prolapsed colon.

Just build another aluminum tank for the IC system and keep it simple.  BTW start of the coolant tank looks great!  Nice welds

Ya it will be very simplified compared to that and I am not using the AC condenser. I threw that thing away years ago. I have a heat exchanger with -12 lines in and out that I will be using after I get my oil filtration and cooling setup done. I will be running oil lines back to the trunk to a Amsoil dual filter head (one full flow and one bypass filter) with a Derale fluid control thermostat inline to a Setrab engine oil cooler with fan that will be mounted in the trunk lid. The aluminum radiator I have is full width so no room for factory engine oil cooler up there and the Mercedes filter is garbage anyway.

Thanks Wolverine, Getting pretty good at the welding stuff haha

Awesome! If your like me, you probably have very little time to work on your own shit.

I'm interested to see how the Amsoil unit works. I had posted something about it a while back but got no response. Seems like the way to go. Keep us updated!!

Exactly! No time, always working! I work for Jeremy McGrath, I am lead fab on his short course off road truck, but thankfully hes letting me keep the Benz at the shop while I collect all my trans swap parts so she'll be going soon.

Video from last race last year, we're gonna kick some ass this year!

Picked up a '95 Cougar IRS diff with "track Lock" (limited slip) to fab into the 300. got it for $140 and it only had 88k miles on it. Still looked new inside.

What kind if lock up are you looking at with that LSD, 60/40?

RE: Captain's '82 300D Coal Roller Purists Must Die Prius Repellent - wolverine - 03-05-2015

Badass, hell of a deal for an 8.8 irs.  Everybody wants a fortune for them seeing as its the only desirable thing off a fucking ford.

(03-05-2015, 10:34 AM)turbojeep What kind if lock up are you looking at with that LSD, 60/40?

I've never seen a lockup for a front or rear diff listed that way, only center diff's. It should be pretty sensitive as the car it came out of had more torque and weighed more I'd think than the Benz. But if I'm not happy with it you can change the spring and or clutches toake it more sensitive or I could put a really locker in it, air locker, whatever. That's the beauty of it... There are to s of possibilities.

RE: Captain's '82 300D Coal Roller Purists Must Die Prius Repellent - raysorenson - 03-10-2015

Looks fun!

Teh % lockup would be determined by the bevel of the face of the spider gears. Since 8.8 gears can be flipped around and have the same gear face on both sides, they have the same % lockup in both directions. The percentage is an expression of lockup forces in relation to input torque. More input torque, more lockup.

The separation forces of the spider gears is what determines the % lockup. If the spider gears got a sharper angle, the % would go down as the separation forces are reduced. If the gear teeth were shorter with a flatter angle, the % lockup with increase.

The spring provides an additive lockup, not a percent. If it provides enough force on the clutches to take, say, 50 lb-ft of torque to make one tire spin in relation to the other, that doesn't change with respect to input torque.

Ahh yes that makes sense. And with that, I have no idea what the lockup may be! ha

Looks like it did pretty well, was this with the diff Lincon locked or was it from the year before?

That was went I went just after thanksgiving 2014 before I welded the diff. It did do very well...

Thing to note. With open diff I always had plenty of wheel speed (yes one wheel faster than the other at times) but will the diff welded it just drags down on the converter a bunch and there really isn't any wheel speed at all. Kinda gay. Especially when its needed like in the sand.

Will be interesting how it does with the manual swap. I have the 2wd AX15 and am ordering the adapter plate tomorrow along with a pedal assembly. The. Will just need flywheel, clutch assembly, driveshaft mod, and trans cross member mod.

RE: Captain's '82 300D Coal Roller Purists Must Die Prius Repellent - Captain America - 03-25-2015

I have more videos from this years KOH to upload still. The videos previously posted are all open diff and you can see wheel speed. You will notice in after video where it greatly suffers

RE: Captain's '82 300D Coal Roller Purists Must Die Prius Repellent - DanielK - 03-25-2015

There's almost always a lower gear. Rev it out. lol.

I really want to get one of those 617/jeep trans adapters and put the trans/transfer case and axles from a jeep under a W123 wagon. Ultimate SUV.
