I prefer citric acid, it won't hurt you and tastes good tooBig Grin

$30-$40 is good considering I paid about $100.00 from Kartek and they send it out.

RE: Captain's '82 300D - Captain America - 06-18-2011

I do have a bottle of citric acid.... haha, I forgot about it

RE: Captain's '82 300D - garage - 06-18-2011

Im jealous of this rebuild.

RE: Captain's '82 300D - DeliveryValve - 06-19-2011

(06-18-2011, 05:47 PM)Captain America ....
The mechanical speedo gear has a oil squirter for the gear and the elec. one does not! What to do Huh...
Wha chu think about that almighty DV? Tongue

Seal the port up with JB Weld or silicon, use the 300SD gasket and drive it! It will still get lubricated, but not as much as before and will probably have a shortened life then before. Wink

.

RE: Captain's '82 300D - JB3 - 06-19-2011

(06-17-2011, 09:34 PM)dieselboy Mine had that too. I made a socket an ended up not needing it for the spare trans.
I'll look to see if I still have it.

ditto

Shame you had to break the output flange. In the future a notched craftsman 32mm welded to a 26mm and a 4 foot breaker bar will make quick work of that pesky nut.

Heres my crappy custom socket

RE: Captain's '82 300D - aaa - 06-19-2011

Weird, I was somehow able to install the oil squirter on mine. Or at least I don't remember discarding it.

RE: Captain's '82 300D - dieselboy - 06-19-2011

Lol that looks exactly like the one I made.

(06-19-2011, 12:23 PM)aaa Weird, I was somehow able to install the oil squirter on mine. Or at least I don't remember discarding it.

I dont see any possible way to make the oil squirter work on the electric SD trans

RE: Captain's '82 300D - dieselboy - 06-19-2011

Hahahahaha. I cut my output on the first trans to make a socket only to find out that my other trans had a 12pt!

RE: Captain's '82 300D - Biohazard - 06-21-2011

Hope the trans is going ok! I've had the goofy 4 notch AND 12pt nuts on various different transmissions and diffs in my family.

RE: Captain's '82 300D - Captain America - 06-21-2011

I just put the the SD back together. I dont see a way of converting it to a mechanical speedo...

So what is exactly is the issue. You just couldn't just seal up the oil jet port and use the SD gasket?

.

RE: Captain's '82 300D - Captain America - 06-27-2011

Yeah I probly could have, but how long will the speedo last? I don't want to have to take things back apart again... It was lubed for a reason

RE: Captain's '82 300D - Captain America - 07-06-2011

Ohhhhh Baby! $80 coating job for free!

Thanks to the guys @ Engineered Apps http://engineeredapps.com/

Its got the standard ceramic covered with the high temp black ceramic. The silver ceramic does the corrosion resistance and the black takes care of the high temps. The Black is very thin, that is why they shoot the thicker silver underneath to keep the corrosion resistance in case the black is scratched off.

FINALLY got time to start work on the Benz again. Stripped most of the paint of the intake

RE: Captain's '82 300D - iheartboost - 08-25-2011

Is that the same one in earlier posts? Thats custom right? Water to air intercooler I presume.

Yes, yes, and yes lol

RE: Captain's '82 300D - dieselboy - 08-26-2011

When you actually going to put this thing together?

RE: Captain's '82 300D - DeliveryValve - 08-26-2011

Hey Capt, what gasket are you going to use on the intake? I was thinking a thicker type (even possibly a plastic spacer) would do wonders in keeping the heat transfer from the heads to a minimum.

Now, Don't worry, it'll come together. I don't rush and don't hack shit haha. Take my time, do it right

I just have a MBZ gasket from the dealer I was planning on using. Something like that would help, I'm sure! Is there something available?

I think I am going to get some of that heat sheild foil stuff to put on the underside of the manifold... http://www.designengineering.com/category/catalog/design-engineering-inc/heat-sound-barrier/reflect-gold

And Will probly try a turbo heat shield, while monitoring EGT's

Thanks! This swap has taken tooooooo long and I need to get it finished. For the gas prices are rising quick!

Ohhhh no. What Ideas?

RE: Captain's '82 300D - sassparilla_kid - 05-22-2012

Hey man, I thought it took me a long ass time to get all of my shit finished, but jeeeez, your project has been in the works for way longer than mine and it still isn't done! Hurry up, I want to see how well that IC works out for you, to motivate me to get one goin lol

I have a ton of interests. You guys only have the diesel benz interest. I have the Sprint, a Jeep, a Buell, and the Benz. They all get equal love.

I have been working on it, just haven't updated. Got all the lines for the remote oil filter housing, brazed the turbo oil inlet to accept a -4AN

... Other stuff here and there. Installing the high stall torque converter tonight, then dropping the motor/trans in.

RE: Captain's '82 300D - sassparilla_kid - 05-23-2012

Oh alright, at least you're still working on it, however slowly that may be!

RE: Captain's '82 300D - Captain America - 05-23-2012

Haha. Here are some pics of tonight.

Dirty shop lol

Nice to see the trans was clean behind the converter

Original on botton (dunno what all the pitting is from Huh) High Stall converter on top, Thanks to Mr. Dropnosky

RE: Captain's '82 300D - sassparilla_kid - 05-23-2012

Awesome. What's the high stall converter from?

RE: Captain's '82 300D - Captain America - 05-23-2012

'85 300D If I remember correctly. The thread on it is here: http://www.superturbodiesel.com/std/thread-1633.html?highlight=torque+converter

RE: Captain's '82 300D - Captain America - 05-29-2012

Got a good amount done this weekend.

Engine is back in the Tank.

Things to do:
  • Mount oil filter housing
  • Make oil lines from block to filter housing
  • Make oil feed to turbo line
  • Make oil cooler lines from housing to cooler
  • install drive shaft and trans linkage
  • throttle linkage
  • cooling system install
  • Plumbing from turbo to intercooler
  • IC cooling system plumbing
Im sure I am forgetting something, but that should get me rollin'.

interestingly I have absolutely no memory of this. I was reading thinking WTF is he talking about, and I STILL don't remember what car that was from. Big Grin

I need to take my fish oil supplements

Looks like you are making things happen though, I have the same problem with a backlog of projects all over creation. You make headway on one, only at the expense of the other. And of course, new project ideas are always popping up!

I think you had the converter sitting on the shelf. It was over a year ago anyway. Don't feel forgetful haha.

You hit the nail on the head about the projects. I couldn't have said it better myself.

RE: Captain's '82 300D - garage - 08-29-2012

Whats up with this beast Capt?

RE: Captain's '82 300D - Captain America - 09-23-2012

All oil lines are completed, just need some nice hose clamps. Also Need to fab a hard mount for the filter housing to hold it in place.

So next thing is to order $120 worth of stuff from Silicone Intakes to plump the charge tube from the turbo to the Intercooler, and for proper air filter plumbing and clamps. Since Rudolf was using a bigger turbo, he had it easy, only needed one 90° bend. I need to get sick with it, haha See here...

Things left:

[undefined=undefined]Mount oil filter housing
install drive shaft and trans linkage
throttle linkage
Plumbing from turbo to intercooler
IC cooling system plumbing[/undefined]

RE: Captain's '82 300D - sassparilla_kid - 09-23-2012

How much boost is the .60 trim capable of putting out?

RE: Captain's '82 300D - DeliveryValve - 09-24-2012

Maybe I missed it in the thread earlier, but why the remote oil filter? Glad to here some news on the project, BTW!

(09-23-2012, 11:28 PM)sassparilla_kid How much boost is the .60 trim capable of putting out?

If I rev it to lets say 5500 RPM, its safe up to about 22 PSI

(09-24-2012, 12:01 AM)DeliveryValve Maybe I missed it in the thread earlier, but why the remote oil filter? Glad to here some news on the project, BTW!

So I can tune the pump easy!

RE: Captain's '82 300D - Captain America - 10-28-2012

So I got all my plumbing in last week and fab'd up the charge tubing.. Using an AEM dry filter

And Just for fun

Thanks, I'd like to see yours.

Got everything in the new oil system primed up and ready to rock (New lines to and from oil filter housing, oil filter housing, and oil to turbo)

She shall roll by the end of this Thanksgiving weekend!

RE: Captain's '82 300D - sassparilla_kid - 11-20-2012

YEEEEE HAAAWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RE: Captain's '82 300D - Greazzer - 11-20-2012

Hey,

Can you post more pictures of the oil filter housing relocation ? Pictures of how the lines run, how it is mounted, et cet ? Please! Also, can you identify what those fittings are ? Their sizes, or at least how one would go about buying fittings for this operation. I got those plates, but no clue about fittings, their sizes, what is needed, e.g., ID, et cet. I think the forum would benefit greatly ! If not, I know I will.

RE: Captain's '82 300D - Captain America - 12-04-2012

So I got the her running last weekend. Oh man she sounds so good. Peppy as f*ck too! Then started her up cold today, little under 60°, about half a revolution and she was purring along. Just need to get fans mounted to radiator, trans linkage and drive shaft hooked up, then throttle linkage and she should be rollin!

I'll get you more pics too Greazzer

And here I was checking around for leaks as she was coming up to temp..

On a side note, I love backing out the rack damper which causes the motor to lope at idle like my buddies tuned LBZ Duramax Tongue

RE: Captain's '82 300D - sassparilla_kid - 12-05-2012

Way to go Captain!!!!!

Mine lopes like that with the rack damper all the way in lol, I have the idle set around 1k to help smooth it out otherwise it shakes the car. I guess I should probably change the damper, and probably engine shocks

Yeah man, Mine is almost worn out too. There's only about a thread and a half before it bottoms into the IP. I am only runnin' on one shock right now, but the shake isn't bad. It's possible you still have the old damper too.

RE: Captain's '82 300D - sassparilla_kid - 12-07-2012

Yup one shock here too. And I tried tightening the damper a bunch of turns but to no avail

RE: Captain's '82 300D - garage - 12-21-2012

Got some hair on yer head aye

Post some vids of this beast!
