1986 300d possible to add turbo? - Raptelan - 05-08-2010

So I bought a German import 1986 300D (non-turbo). This car has quite a bit more power than the 1976 240D 3.0L, but is it possible to add turbo to it?

Not reliably. non-turbo engines don't have the higher strength parts or piston cooling added to the turbo engines.

You can, but you can't add anywhere near as much as you could with a turbo engine. At most you'd get to factory turbo engine specs... The turbo engines do have a lot of design improvements to accommodate the increased power.
