biodiesel friendly rubber - Syncro_G - 02-09-2010

Hi,
I just finished replacing all fuel lines (including injector return and all vent lines) with viton lined Parker hose.
Though not necessary for WVO, I wanted to do this so I could run B100 when it's convenient to get. There's a regional station nearby my work that's known for making quality bio and it's taxed so FI can rest easy that I'm still paying for my share of pavement Smile

I'm curious to know if other seals are prone to failure when running B100. do the MW pumps hold up well? Gas cap seal?

-Thanks, Christian

I've run B100 for a couple years now in my 82 CD after switching to Viton fuel lines. The gas cap seal deteriorated though. I replaced it with a BD compatible one from MercedesSource (yes I shopped that site before I found other more reasonably priced outfits). No problems with the IP.

Cool, thanks for the reply
I've been doing about 20% mixing B100 with regular diesel the last couple weeks.
fuel lines and vent lines are viton
I just made a gas cap seal from a scepter MFC viton seal (G-Wagen caps are much bigger than the 123 series caps)
and injector return lines are viton so I think I'm OK now.

Hydrogenated, N Buna rubber is also resistant to BioDiesel and blends...

Not all types of Viton are resistant to BioDiesel allegedly....

good to know! The viton I have is rated for biodiesel - parker hoses.

I have one last set of hoses (7" long 3" ID to 2.5" ID reducer couplers between tanks)
These are only offered in standard rubber by M-B but the size is common among the silicone turbo tubing companies. I'm thinking of getting one of them to make a set using flourinated silicone. It may still be cheaper than buying the factory rubber.

I've been running B100 for about 1000 miles now- everything seems to be holding up fine. I still have a couple regular rubber couplings from aux saddle tanks to the main tank that are holding up fine (The walls are about 1/4" thick)

also recently found out Samco has released a new line of mandrel shaped tubing that's rated for continuous B100 use but the US reps don't seem to know much about it yet. (it's not their profuel line)
