Yeah, we're country.
Think that ole benz can haul a 1200lb trailer/boat?

How can I get this trans to stay in 1st for a minute?

RE: road trip 2 - sassparilla_kid - 07-21-2012

I think you need some Bilstein HD's in the rear there, looks a little bottomed out

maybe he needs to get rid of that tree he has as a hood ornament off. thats where the problem is.

RE: road trip 2 - Simpler=Better - 07-23-2012

He needs the simplerbetter $25 autozoo lift kit Big Grin

RE: road trip 2 - larsalan - 07-23-2012

Well that side looks low but, the other side makes up for it by being highsided on a big ole rock Wink

RE: road trip 2 - waz - 07-23-2012

On the bright side. This happened on dry land and not into the water.
I've seen my share of tow vehicles turned submarine.

RE: road trip 2 - larsalan - 12-07-2012

Oh these pics make me long for the spring times Wink
I just post here real quick to brag on my new way huger/tougher trailer. A good ole boy sold it to me for $175. Its made for a boat but we're going to hack off them rollers, check out the geometry, and lay down a flat bed and some sides.
Hauled it home in some nasty rain at highway speeds, made it back all in one piece; good so far.

RE: road trip 2 - sassparilla_kid - 12-08-2012

Any idea what the tongue weight with that boat on the trailer is?

RE: road trip 2 - larsalan - 12-08-2012

Well the hitch on the car is custom so I think it can pretty well hold. More likely the whole trunk and rear quarter panels would bend.
Both the trailers are pretty front heavy. I hope to figure out a way to sort that out on this new one. I was out there for about an hour and a half or so today grinding out welds and taking of some of them boat rollers.

Can you move the trailer axles farther forward until you have only 150lbs tongue weight?

RE: road trip 2 - larsalan - 12-09-2012

I was hoping not to move the axles. I wonder what else can be done? I do not know. Shorten the tongue section? Maybe that would take some weight off the front end.
Still shitty outside.
I bet it is under that 150lb. I mean, I can pick it up by hand and push it around. I have a look at it someday. Maybe I can even find a level area to work on.

Also maybe gets more back heavy if I build some folding ramp on the back.

RE: road trip 2 - Simpler=Better - 12-09-2012

Is it only like 150lbs when loaded? If so you're doing OK, and probably just need a little lift in the back. The $20 cheapo coil spacers do the job well, just drop the rear and slide them under the springs.

RE: road trip 2 - larsalan - 12-09-2012

you mean lift for the car rear end? Send a link for me. I did chop a bit off of the front and back springs on the car.
like 3/4 coil in back and 1 and 1/2 in the front

RE: road trip 2 - Simpler=Better - 12-09-2012

It won't stiffen it up or anything-it's strictly a lifty-lift. I used one of these on each side of the rear end, under the springs. You can install it between the coils as a temp solution, but some people think it will unevenly strain the springs and cause a break-don't know either way.

Some examples of coil spacers:

Just found a nice and easy little piece about tongue weight.

RE: road trip 2 - sassparilla_kid - 12-10-2012

I say get some hydraulic shocks for the rear, and then plumb them into the power steering or maybe get an sls pump and then you can have as much load as you want until the bottom of the trunk rips out. You could probably also get some air shocks, which would probably be cheaper, and a lot easier to use

Airbags + trunk reinforcement hmmm that sounds like a damn good idea

RE: road trip 2 - larsalan - 12-11-2012

nah, fuck all that noise.

RE: road trip 2 - sassparilla_kid - 12-11-2012

I really wish these cars had a frame, part of me thinks it would make life easier

RE: road trip 2 - larsalan - 01-10-2013

Well fuck. I got the 'new' heater core in there. Dash board is all off. Fought to pull the dash over the steering wheel and messed with a few wires I guess. And mysteriously the fuse box under the hood is acting up now too.
All kinds of shit. Sunroof, windows, headlights, fog lights, radio and worst of all wiper blades and sprayer.
Try driving in rain without wipers.
Fucking electric shit. On and off is about as far as I wish this shit would go. Fucking relays, wires that have zero slack and fuses that only someone with fucking doll hands can swap out.

I just checked, the wiper motor seems to be blowing the fuse. The motor will only run on the highest setting and then it burns up the fuses. Spraying the fluid is ok for the fuse. Just trying to do the motor makes it blow out.

I think I need to get at that wiper motor and wire it to an on/off 12v circuit. Fuck all that other jazz, fuses, short wires, relays. No wonder it is fucking broken.

Maybe I just switch to that rain-x stuff and never bother with wipers again. My buddy had used that stuff and it works great to shed water, but then you have to keep on re applying it for it to keep working.

RE: road trip 2 - larsalan - 03-03-2013

Hauled a flatbed trailer today with single axle and leaf springs. It's about an 800lb trailer and I had loaded about 2500lb of bricks on top of that. Pretty fun hauling and a lot of whoosh from the tailpipe.

RE: road trip 2 - Simpler=Better - 03-03-2013

Holla!

RE: road trip 2 - larsalan - 09-09-2013

Lots of treats for the car. New oil, new 8038 air filter, a wash and wax. And a new/used grill badge.
