Re: Jeep Liberty Turbo to T3 Adaptor - bgkast - 04-25-2008

The head fit the diameter fine, I did not get to test the depth or insert the bolt for the pictures because I need to chase my manifolds threads in that location with a tap.

* winmutt taps foot patiently. I already got the 8mm-10mm stud but I think it is too short. I got an allen bolt head for the blind one.

Cant wait!!!!

My 8 to 10 stud is marginal in length too. Is there some sort of high temp loctite I can use on the studs?

Re: Jeep Liberty Turbo to T3 Adaptor - dieselkid - 04-25-2008

sorry bro.
Sent it out today 2day.

Re: Jeep Liberty Turbo to T3 Adaptor - bgkast - 04-25-2008

It looks like I will have to thin out the head of my alan bolt a few mm.

I spent some quality time with my angle grinder and dremel and transitioned the two flange holes yesterday and today.

Re: Jeep Liberty Turbo to T3 Adaptor - winmutt - 04-28-2008

Heh how long did that take? I planned on doing the same with mine.

Re: Jeep Liberty Turbo to T3 Adaptor - bgkast - 04-28-2008

It took about 3 hours. It would have been faster if I started out roughing the hole with my angle grinder, instead of trying a dremel for an hour at first. Once the hole is roughed out the dremel works great.

Mine came in (wife didnt tell me of course). Was the 10->8mm stud long enough?

Re: Jeep Liberty Turbo to T3 Adaptor - bgkast - 04-29-2008

It will work, but I would like it to be longer on the 10MM side. Any ideas on high-temp loc-tite? We will need to use something to keep that 8 to 10 MM stud in place with only 3/8” of threads screwed into the exhaust manifold. I would also like to use something to prevent exhaust leaks around the studs where they thread into the adaptor.

Re: Jeep Liberty Turbo to T3 Adaptor - Simpler=Better - 11-04-2008

I've made up an adapter using Bryan's dimensions(Friendly hint:It's easier for machinists if you dimension everything outwards from the center of the block)

While I'm waiting on some gasket material, I can't get the manifold studs out. Are they pressed in or threaded in? I don't want to crack the manifold trying to pull them out.

Threaded. I had to put the studs in a vise and turn the manifold.

Re: Jeep Liberty Turbo to T3 Adaptor - ForcedInduction - 11-04-2008

Yes, after 20+ years of heat cycling and corrosion they can be a bear to get out. I had to use triple jam nuts to get the studs out of mine without damage.

Re: Jeep Liberty Turbo to T3 Adaptor - GREASY_BEAST - 11-04-2008

ditto on how big a pain in the ass those studs are to get out.. Try lots of PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench, heat, maybe give them a good whack (gently, don't crack anything) with a hammer, and use a multitude of jam nuts.. good luck! I don't know what pitch they are, but 3/8" studs from autozone just sorta threaded right in for my HX30 swap.. lol

Re: Jeep Liberty Turbo to T3 Adaptor - Simpler=Better - 11-04-2008

I'll be making a 8-10 stud for it

Re: Jeep Liberty Turbo to T3 Adaptor - Simpler=Better - 11-05-2008

It's all good. If I get bored at work one of these days I'll post "formal" drawings of all the parts

EDIT: I've attached a drawing with dimensions from the center of the T3 stud holes. Yeah I was kinda bored

RE: Jeep Liberty Turbo to T3 Adaptor - bgkast - 04-01-2009

Anybody have the orignal flange dimensions from post 12? I can't find them on my computer

RE: Jeep Liberty Turbo to T3 Adaptor - ForcedInduction - 04-02-2009

This?

RE: Jeep Liberty Turbo to T3 Adaptor - bgkast - 04-02-2009

Thanks

RE: Jeep Liberty Turbo to T3 Adaptor - ForcedInduction - 09-24-2009

Any updates? I'm looking into a Liberty turbo for my 240 instead of bolting the stock T3 back on.

I do already have a turbo, but it has end play so I'm searching for another.

RE: Jeep Liberty Turbo to T3 Adaptor - winmutt - 09-24-2009

I have the test plate still if you want it for shipping costs...

can these newer VNT turbos be rebuilt, or is it cheaper, easier, and smarter to find a good used one?

RE: Jeep Liberty Turbo to T3 Adaptor - ForcedInduction - 09-24-2009

The cost of a used turbo is usually less than a (genuine, not Chinese clone junk) rebuild kit.

RE: Jeep Liberty Turbo to T3 Adaptor - Kiwibacon - 09-25-2009

Did I mention I have solidworks and a whole collection of turbo adapter designs already?
It's pretty quick to crank out another if you guys provide some measurements.

Could you make a T3 to 3" V-band? Big Grin

Also, will this adapter plate work for the Sprinter turbos?

Which end of the T3?

I have a sprinter turbo, the flange is indeed a mongrel. I've got a T3-sprinter turbo adapter but it runs through about 120 degrees. I've yet to install this turbo.

RE: Jeep Liberty Turbo to T3 Adaptor - brynton - 09-27-2009

How much boost can the liberty and sprinter turbo handle??

Cheers

RE: Jeep Liberty Turbo to T3 Adaptor - ForcedInduction - 09-27-2009

They are limited by compressor surge. Without an intercooler, 15psi before 3500rpm and 23psi past 3500rpm.

Are those your experiences at alititude or predicted off that map?
My GT2256V has a smaller trim than that map shows, which will give it higher pressure ratios without surge.

RE: Jeep Liberty Turbo to T3 Adaptor - brynton - 09-28-2009

Thanks for that,

so are the Sprinter and Jeep turbo's the same unit??

I only have to worry about being 240 foot as opposed to you guys with some really high spots.

I have an intercooler that is 700x300x75, ( was planning Super turbo on a OM605, but reading more about the VNT/VGT these seem to offer greater driveabilty as opposed to an HX35) would this be a little large, and would the turbo benifit from an external wastegate??

Sorry to hijack this thread

RE: Jeep Liberty Turbo to T3 Adaptor - winmutt - 09-28-2009

They are not. GT2256V(sprinter) vs GT2056V(jeep)

Yes, the Sprinter turbos that are electrically actuated have a slightly larger inducer.

Get me the measurements for the V band flange and I'll see what I can do.

RE: Jeep Liberty Turbo to T3 Adaptor - winmutt - 10-01-2009

Kiwi what manifold is that from? Looks like an om314.

88 onwards Isuzu NPR.Angel
Engine is a 4BD1T, but the later 4BD2T used the same manifold. 3.9 turbo 4 banger.

RE: Jeep Liberty Turbo to T3 Adaptor - ForcedInduction - 10-02-2009

Well crap, I've been laid off so the Liberty turbo plan is dead. I'll just throw the stock T3 back on the 240 and be done with it.

The adapter would need to make a 45 degree angle upwards in order for the turbo to fit (I think)... Coming out from the manifold a bit is cool too. Thanks!

I've got the T3 flange and V band flange modelled. Can you give a side on sketch of the orientation you want between them?

RE: Jeep Liberty Turbo to T3 Adaptor - cell - 01-22-2010

has anyone worked on an adapter flange for the electronically actuated 2256v? or has anyone found dimensions for it anywhere?

I started working on one and got as far as having a CAD file for it, never found a place to get it made for a reasonable price tho. I know theres a few other people that have/are working on one...

RE: Jeep Liberty Turbo to T3 Adaptor - cell - 01-22-2010

ahh, I didn't see you had a 2256 thread! nice.

are you interested in sharing that CAD file? Wink

I'll see if I can find it. I made it in the software from emachineshop.com so I don't think its in a standard format.

RE: Jeep Liberty Turbo to T3 Adaptor - cell - 01-22-2010

well, I helped out the UT solar racing team and was given a copy of solidworks as a result. I'd be happy to model it up in solidworks. I think it can export to a standard cad format (I think .dxf?).
