Need help removing brake rotor from hub
I have an 89 W126 and I am trying to remove the brakes to bolt up to my 115, but I am un familiar with this type of brake rotor setup - I already took off the caliper, but does anyone know how these come off?;

You need to remove the hub. The rotor bolts to the back of it. Big torx bolts, if I remember correctly.

RE: Need help removing brake rotor from hub
I'm going to be doing this soon on my W115.
Got all the brake line fittings soaking in PB Blaster currently.

I'll be using this as a guide to get the hub off/on.

Now is a good time to replace wheel seals and repack your bearings as well.

uh-oh, these have been sitting for a looong time, even though I soaked the caliper bolts in PB blaster, both of them still sheered off, are these torx heads made of steel or aluminum?T-40, T-45 or bigger?

what are the wheel seals? what is 'repacking' bearings?

Thanks much as usual!

They are allen bolts not torx. 10mm. Steel.

I have a hard time believing you sheered the caliper bolts. Did you use an impact or something?

You should get ahold of a maintenance manual such as a Haynes manual. They describe step-by-step how to do maintenance like bearings, seals, and the like. In order to remove the rotor you will have to remove the wheel, and when you remove the wheel, there is a seal on the back side that should be replaced. While you are at it, there will be two wheel bearings. One on the outside, one on the inside. These bearings are packed with grease to lubricate them. This grease must be replaced periodically because it breaks down due to heat and friction. The bearings must also be inspected to make sure they don't need replaced. Now that you have the whole assembly apart, it is a convenient time to do these maintenance items.

RE: Need help removing brake rotor from hub
the W114/115 hub is the same as the W123.... as is most of the car.

I got the rotor off with that guide, made a huge difference knowing what to look for!

cant wait to see if these puppies bolt right up to my 115. should be a huge improvement!

are the inner and outer bearings both in the same unit behind the nut?
I would assume any sort of grease is acceptable?

I would like to get the Mercedes manuel for the W126, but I do have all 3 for the W115.

I wonder if my 190D needs that done... I have never checked the wheel bearings and that car has got more miles on it than the earth does.

got it, allen - came right off.

both sheered right off in the hub - rusted solid. I used a 19mm socket with a 1/2" torque wrench and my leg for leverage, over 350LB/FT and they wouldn't budge, then a little more and they sheered off.

the donor car has got 238,000 miles on it too, but the pads look almost new
