Lug bolt info needed
I bought some 18" AMG style (monobloc ?) wheels + nearly new Continental M+S rated tires on Saturday. The bolt pattern + hub center + backspacing all appear compatible with my W210 - but the dang lug bolts are too long.

Any idea what model Merc I should use to look up some aftermarket lug bolts? Febi/Bilstein makes a lot of lug bolts...but I'm not having much luck finding anything but the ~2.5" long OEM lug bolts.

I tried looking up lug bolts for a 1999 E55 AMG - on the assumption that car used these 18" wheels. I'm going to take one of my OEM lug bolts and compare the "thread protrusion" between the OEM wheels and these 18" straight pimpin' rolling stock. The difference was ~1" when I checked on Saturday night - but I want to get a more exact measurement.

Thanks!

Beers,

Matt

Thanks! You're not kidding on the low prices. They have whole sets of them for $20ish - hope they're not Made in China. Smile

RE: Lug bolt info needed
I took a closer look at the wheels last night.

They're for a car with 14mm lug bolts - not 12mm lug bolts.
Any chance someone makes a 14mm lug bolt with 12mm threads? Smile

I contacted the guy I bought them from and he hasn't responded yet - so I may have the whole set with some really spendy and brand new Continental winter rubber for sale - cheap.

Beers,

Matt
I just called Lakeshore.

The nice dude on the phone said that I should be just fine running these AMG monoblocks (replicas) with 12mm lug bolts. He said that most wheels these days are drilled out to 14mm and that since the wheels are hub centric I will be just fine.

Major relief. Now I need to take some measurements for new (shorter) lug bolts and I'll be all set. I didn't bother last night because I thought the wheels were a lost cause when I discovered they were 14mm instead of 12mm.

I'll keep this thread updated with my results.

Beers,

Matt

Good to hear they are nice in person. Of course at those prices its probably made in China, but then again you get 5 bolts !

RE: Lug bolt info needed
Here's the lug bolt info I've come up with for the 18" replica monoblocks versus the OEM wheels on my W210:

Required Lug Bolts for 18" wheels:
12mm x 1.5 thread, 17mm head, ball seat, 24mm thread length

OEM Lug Bolts for 16" wheels:
12mm x 1.5 thread, 17mm head, ball seat, 39mm thread length

So far, so good on the 18" monoblocks. My vibration issue mostly disappeared with the "new" wheels/tires...so I must have had some really out of balance rolling stock before. Yikes.
