ATS Diesels On The Mountain
http://www.atsdiesel.com/ats2/dom.asp?sb=17

I've contacted ATS to see if it would be possible to enter my 300D for some 1/4 fun-run drags on August 1-2. By then I should have most everything done except a Myna pump, water injection and internal transmission modifications.

1982 300D VNT
Modifications: M-Pump, GT2256V VNT turbo, A/W intercooler, W/M injection, W115 300D intake, straight pipe exhaust, #265 nozzles, 2-micron Baldwin fuel filter, W126 Gen-II 300mm brakes, battery relocated to the trunk, HVAC systems removed, 15mm rear sway bar, 3.46 diff, Mobil1 15W-50 synthetic oil and Galant front seat.

1980 240D 3.0T
Modifications: OM617.95, 4-speed manual, W/M injection, 2-micron Baldwin BF7591-D fuel filter, ALDA removed, no EGR, 3.07 diff, Amsoil EaBP 90 bypass oil filter, Mobil1 5W-40 synthetic oil.

Woo hoo! Plus I won't have to miss a day of work.

The Sunday portion will be open to diesels in general so you don't have to have a truck to race. Look forward to seeing you out there!

Since the current pump needs replacing, I'm planning on swapping in the "stock" M-Pump and turning it up. If I can find a 98-99 E300's pump for cheap I might have an injection shop swap in the elements and calibrate it.

RE: ATS Diesels On The Mountain
Well, at this rate the Holset won't be ready for the race and the M-pump won't have the 6mm elements. I don't want to put the GT22V on the 300 since its working so damn well on the 240 I don't want to disturb it.

I'll probably just max out the m-pump, turn up the T3's boost and increase the modulator pressure. Although I'm not sure if I even want to bother without the Holset.

What causes the "Nail" to happen, lack of combustion, lack of fuel or fuel timing?

That turned out to be wrong, it still nails after changing the injection pump. An Italian Tuneup reduced the noise so it may just be carbon buildup.

I started installing the Rajay turbo on my 240 today and if I can get it running in time I'll bring it up and run it! What needs to be done for tech inspection I think I need a water reservoir bottle any thing else I should worry about?

I've never been part of the races, but what I've read so far for a street car to pass is an overflow bottle (I'm not sure if I need one since it uses an expansion tank), a battery tie down, a working neutral safety switch, seatbelts and good tires.

My 240D is the same way so I think it would be acceptable since its factory.

Good luck finding one! I have only come across one set in the junkyard. If you do need one, I have 1 spare. Worst case, I have some cargo straps. Big Grin

$30 per racer plus $10 per "crew member".

I just asked the boss for the 1st off so I'll be a spectator for the first day. I'll find out the specifics of what we need to do/where we need to be.

Tom Judd said he is interested in the event so he might show up and write an article about us. Big Grin

The other racer was in a 99-02 Ford F250 with the 7.3L PSD, I actually had him up to the 1/8th mile!

For the second run I removed the exhaust from the downpipe back, my times went UP! The only faster number was 0.41mph faster top speed. Huh

Here is the video of my second run. Will (willbhere4u) is in the 240D ahead.

RE: ATS Diesels On The Mountain
The 300D is finally track-legal. Last August I had to use an old washer bottle as a catchcan because the track requires a 16+oz coolant container, even if the system is an expansion tank type.

The bracket is from an early-80's Mazda RX-7 and the tank is from a 90's Mitsubishi Montero. Its bolted to one of the old battery tray mount holes.

Note: Don't worry, green is only for the intercooler circuit. The engine uses the correct yellow.

RE: ATS Diesels On The Mountain
Without a doubt. The IP has been turned up again since then and the W/M injection adds 13whp on top of that. Its just up to 1st and 2nd holding the torque of 17psi of boost off the line. Big Grin

RE: ATS Diesels On The Mountain
I ran 17.445@76.8 this year, vs 18.847@71.20 last year.
My first run was against a Ram 1500 Hemi and I actually had him all the way up to the last few feet. Big Grin Second run was against a 14second Dodge....

Video: My reaction times and launches were not as good as I'd like, every time the second stage water/methanol would kick in I lost traction on the line. I really need LSD.
The video quality is poor because I had to use my backup camera due to dead batteries in my primary.

Unfortunately, they said this is the last year they will let me get away with entering. Maybe next year I'll bend the rules a little by removing the trunk lid and calling it a Benzomino. Big Grin
