Tiny car with huge power..
Well not huge power, but more than std. power Smile

The car is one you probably never see in the states, it's a Peugeot 206HDI. The engine is a 1998ccm 1st gen CommonRail engine with catalytic converter and no intercooler. In std. trim is produces 90BHp and 205Nm, but this can be changed quite easily.

This is the car (never mind the photoshoppin'..)
(all images are click'able)

This is what the enginebay looks like std.

This is what it looks like one an intercooler has been fitted.

..but much better, almost factory looking once the boostpipes are painted black.

The intercooler sits behind the std. bumper and grille.

Right that was the intercooler, then I fitted a new Sachs clutch with an uprated pressureplate, guaranteed to withstand 400Nm.. The boost was turned up from 0.9 bar to 1.3 bar via a bleedvalve and I started remapping it.

This is one of my very first files:

Then I adjusted it a bit:

This file I drove with for quite a bit, but then it was time to experiemtn with some new files and I got this:

It drove absolutely fantastic with this, but more wants more..

I uprated the fuelpressure sensor with a 1800bar sensor and made some new files for it. This is as much as it will give without smoking too badly, now the limiting factor is the turbo..

(this is on winter diesel, on summer diesel it produces 165BHp and 398M.)

But it is not only the engine that has been uprated slightly, the brakes are 266x20.5mm when it leaves the prduction line, but now it is fitted with 283x20.5mm grooved discs and uprated calipers. It has been lowered with a coiloverkit. Apart from this I want it to look as close to std as possible, thus no huge spoilers, no huge wheels and no excessive lowering Smile The wheels are original 16" Peugeot rims fitted with Dunlop tires. G-Tech says 7.01 seconds to 100km/h (62mph) - that is pretty damn quick Smile

But as more wants more I'm working towards a new modification. Smile
A BMW 320d VNT turbo (Mitsubishi TF035) is to be fitted along with an uprated highpressure pump from a BMW 330d. The car is born with a wastegate turbo and no vnt/vgt control, but this can be "enabled" in the ecu - if you know what you are doing Wink I hope the remapping will no be too hard, lets see..

RE: Tiny car with huge power..
thanks. that was a treat. It must be nice to have a diesel engine in a lighter vehicle. It must consume very little if driven softly. Is the turbo as responsive with the added intercooler ductwork?

Yes it is more responsive due to the higher injection pressure. (1350 bar max std. now 1800bar max).

wow, 1800 bar, now that's some technology to mess with. the little solenoids in the injectors must be more advanced than the space shuttle ten years ago..

you said it. Diesel nuts in the US are limited to either playing with older luxury cars or econo boxes from basically either benz or VW outside of truck diesels and a smattering of rare oddball cars. I had a couple old ford and lincoln diesel cars with asian and euro diesels in them, but its impossible to get parts for those.

Id love to get my hands on a quick little 2 door Common rail like this without paying top dollar for a newer luxury MB or VW or having to drive a full size pickup or van.

Yes I so would love more little diesel cars, for example my cousins cdi c200 coupe in PL. Loved it absolutely, and it does seem like that car was quicker then my current c230k.

Yes!! If only Citroen and Peugeot would come back to this country!
I saw a Peugeot 206 in Michigan about 6 years ago. Wasn't a diesel but still made me smile. Full plates. (Not Manufacturers or a special plate either).

It's a shame too because when our w123s (300d's) were made 75% of MBs in the U.S. were diesels.

Hey, this is slightly off topic, but theres a guy about 100 miles from you, on seneca lake who claims he has 60 something peugeots. I only saw about 15 of them, but hes a dealer/junkyard/old guy with tons of cars. None of them new, and not sure if there are any diesels. Worth the drive if you are into volvos or peugeots.

OK... still off topic...

I am all ears!!!
Contact info please???

also slightly off topic but one of the best Citroen mechanics in the US is Dave Burnham in Delanson, NY (next door to Duanesburg). I found out about him from a Maserati Ghibli owner as the high pressure hydraulics are common in both cars. He has also campaigned a SM powered ice racer that is awfully cool. His website is http://daveburnhamcitroen.com

please try and get me some contact info about the Peugeot/Volvo guy.

RE: Tiny car with huge power..
Strangely enough my friend back in Lansing, MI (where I'm from (sort-of)) said that he just saw the same Peugeot 206 again--something like 6-9 years later!!!

I've also seen a Lancia Delta Integrale Evo II or III with full plates. Upon asking the guy how he got it into the country he sheepishly replied that he has friends at the Ferrari factory! If only I had those kinds of friends... (smirk)
