Wink !!! Off Roading the D's !!!
Dunno If I put this in the right place.... feel free to move if needed.

So Garage hit me up yesterday and we decided to meet up to have some fun in the dirt....

Met over in the Hidden Valley Nature Center and then headed towards my house by Lake Mathews (A drinking water reservoir that is closed to the public). We had a blast but a few "retards" (as called by the local Sheriff's) were trying to get us in trouble.

Damage:

Stopped by two sheriff's, Twice ... $0.
Stopped by a Federal Air Marshall ... $0.
Got the helicopter called on us ... $0
Caught on the wrong side of the fence off roading a couple Benz' by Lake Mathews security ... $0
All this because "Retarded people call dumb things in" PRICELESS!

The cars did awesome off the highway, I am very impressed and even though we spent more time talking to the authorities then actually driving, it was a blast!

Some bushes in my grill. and my gas cap wasn't on all the way so I spilled...

Goodtimes! Goodtimes!
Haha, it was a blast, rallying around the D's that is, not so much the hassle with law enforcement.

More to come soon!

RE: !!! Off Roading the D's !!!
Well I was low on oil and didn't have any with me soooooo......

Na, that was from over the weekend. Im working on a skid Idea now. Maybe something like on that Carlsson tuned video everyone posts up... A round bar that goes across the front fascia at the bottom to protect that from head on dents and rocks (I dented mine and so did Garage). Then in the middle (a little wider than the oil pan) have a plate that goes straight back under the oil pan, bolts to the cross member and maybe even go back to the end of the trans or even back further to protect the diff. That should take car of everything I think, Plus you could unbolt it for service. The only other thing that needs a cover is the fuel lines than run down the drivers side. I say that because I high centered mine hill climbing at one section yesterday.

awesome! you guys need to find some rear diff locks - that should open up a lot more terrain for you.

also, I thought I saw a link at peach parts for an OEM skid plate for the w123

Hey Syncro! That was one of my next plans of action with my 240, is to get the rear diff locked up. I think it would definetly open up alot more area to explore.

Im gonna have to check that out at peach parts then!

RE: !!! Off Roading the D's !!!
Yeah Its lowered, cut 2 coils off the front...
Well I went Solo today, Probly not the best choice, but the Guys from So Cal will understand like Garage And Mr. Rudolf Diesel. I have to commute the 91 frwy East and it suck and to use the toll road to pass traffic is like $4-9 bucks a pop... Ouch. So I decide to shove it up their ass and find a different way through. Well I found it lol

I do not understand how this car climbs so well... It literally fuckin amazes me! The road was tight, super soft, and rocky (perfect conditions to get stuck) Maybe its the independent suspension? Go look on Google earth and check how steep some of those hills were! Shes just kept chuggin' along and it made me so happy! I would get a bit of wheel spin here and there but no one tire fire you would find with a straight axle. and if the R's came up high enough to make boost the rear end would step out and I'd have to back off the gas or just go across the trail sideways. No straight axle car would have made it.

Always wanted to check this house out...

I could hear the buzzing from this far away from the wires. Scary.

Thought my day was done until I discovered that the lock was already broken

Where I scraped the front end and broke the rear bumper mount ... Had no choice

The trail was 8.5 miles long

That looks pretty cool, but I am not sure if I want to offroad my carBig Grin

I think that house belongs to the Hot Pcoket inventor, someone was telling me a while back about working on the house and how it was the biggest house in Orange County.

I would prefer the 110 FWY through Padadena.

1982 300SD: 304,xxx Super M-pump with 7.5mm elements, 265 Nozzles, GT35 water cooled turbo, M90 Supercharger, A/W Intercooler, Serpentine drive belt, 3" SS exhaust with Magnaflow muffler, 240 breather, AEM dry Filter, Manual Boost Control, EGT / Boost / EMP gauges....Moved on to other projects

1995 F-350 7.3L PSD: 230,xxx 6.0 IC, DIY Stage 1 Injectors, 17* hpop, Tony Wildman Chip, John Wood Trans, 6.4L TC, 3" down pipe, 4" straight exhaust, 310 HP on wheel dyno - 8500# dually: 0-60 in 6.98

Suzuki Samurai: VW 1.9L TD, Trackick doubler transfer case (made by me) 5.8:1 transfer case gears, YJ springs front and rear with rear missing links, wheel base extended 14", diffs welded, some day a VNT.

Yeah I wouldn't think that you would want to offroad your SD ..... but you might have to get one that you don't care about so much so you can come play.

The Hot Pocket inventor huh? is he Asian? There are like budda status in the front. You can kinda see them in the pic. Also some Chinese or Japanese writing on the outside of the house.

Haha too bad the 110 runs North and South huh? I gotta go from West to East. I work right by the 110/91

Yeah im usually able to get up to about 50 before i hit the dirt, but once im in the sand its hard to stay above 40. I just decided to be careless and got myself stuck, all in good fun though.

The car handles very well in the sand though

Yeah I'm down in Ocotillio all the time, but yet to have the Benz down there. That would be fun!

RE: !!! Off Roading the D's !!!
This reminds me of my all time favorite Top Gear episode- the one where they take 3 junkers across African savannah. James May picks a W123 gasser and strips everything off to cross mud flats, including the doors. Ever consider doing a set of tube doors?

If you get ambitious, try out the Mohave Road. You'd probably be able to do 99% of it with the W123, but make sure you either skid plate or be prepared to crawl through a couple rocky stretches. There's also one water crossing that gets up to 3' deep, so don't go in the spring.
Also, I think Cap'n America can appreciate this pic, taken from a 300SD somewheres near Bishop

Cool! Another crazy MB diesel enthusiast in Riverside! Here's some photos of my 190D Turbo camping out on the sand near the Salton Sea, and on a pretty easy 4x4 trail in the San Bernardino forest.

I'm near UCR and the 60/91 interchange- so about 10 miles from you.

I don't see a lot of old diesel Mercedes around here... mostly just lifted 2wd Bro trucks

I hear yeah man, That's the truth!

I work in Rialto and pass by you everyday haha.

There aren't many old Mercs around at all. I know of a couple 123's that I see often and like one or two of the newer ones (don't remember which body it is)

I think we needa plan an overnighter offroad/camping trip geared towards MB's offroad!
It be too cool to have a caravan of Mercedes' cruising through the trails!

That would be fun! Although I'd probably bring one of my beater Volvos instead... I baby the **** out of my 190D to the point of not parking it outside without a car cover. It's probably rediculous since it's not even in that great of shape, lol...

Lol
The 240d rolled off the trailer in my back yard and the front of the car rolled down of my loading ramp and the front bumper is under water.
Going to drag it up to the house tomorrow drain the nasty wvo out of it and put some wheels on it and tow it to ocotillo wells for this weekend.
