CLK rims?
I don't know if this is the right place for this question, but I "happen" to have access to 4 16 inch CLK rims. Is it possible to mount them to a 123? Do I need spacers? I know the offset is different, but would the wider rim make up for it?

pretty sure you will need spacers..

I have always liked that wheel... like a modern "bundt"

if you mount them.. take a photo.. I have always been curious how they would look

That was the same reason I liked them! Some of the classic along with modern wheel size. I will certainly post a before and after pic when and if they fit.

RE: CLK rims?
Well, technically, CLK rims will fit on the 123 without modifications, especially on the rear.

However, at least with this specific 16 inch rim, there is maybe a 8th of an inch clearance between the tie rods and the edge on the front, too close for comfort, and actually no issues on the rear except that the stock wheel lugs are too long for both.

Ive ordered up 4 spacers which should alleviate both these problems.

RE: CLK rims?
I am a bit worried about clearance just in case of road debris being kicked up into the gap, possibly knocking off the wheel weights, or tearing the boot on the tie rod. Its probably just my inner wuss showing through.

On mine I have 255/30R19 on the front and 285/35R19 on the rear, the front has about the width of a screwdriver blade
from the tire and the steering knuckle. I have had this setup on for almost ten thousand miles and experienced no problems. You should be ok

RE: CLK rims?
Mounted them with a set of super cheap used 205/55 R16 snow tires on, which the PO reccomended as a good size, but I think I will go slightly larger when I actually put some new all season tires on it. Im pretty pleased with how it looks. Handles a little better on corners as well.

Have to take em off until I have the cash for some all season tires. These wide soft snow tires are KILLING the fuel economy on this car. Its unbelievable. My old tires are tall, thin, and have 20% tread life left. The closer to bald, the better the fuel economy.

i really like these wheels. I used 5MM hubcentric spacers since the stock alloy ligs were to long and will wreck your ebrake. I have 215/50/16's on em which fit with no rubbing, even with the 1"lower.

thanks, I was not sure what to get but I'm happy w/ 215's. Apparently 225's fit ok too. I'm happy with the coil chop, went w/ 1 coil. Rides/handles great, like a different car since I rebuilt the frontend/brakes. I'm entering it in a hillclimb race just for fun since there is an alt fuel class at this event.

Your car looks nice, amazing for 350K! I did the 2:88 as well, what a nice upgrade for the highway!

RE: CLK rims?
I had always heard rumors of these wheels being pretty lightweight so before mounting them up tomorrow, I figured I would weigh one.
I used a double-beam balance medical scale, so it should be pretty accurate.

And the verdict is...

14.0 lb !!

Has anyone else weighed these wheels? If so, let us know what your results were.

RE: CLK rims?
Funny you should ask that!

I mounted them up at work this evening where I have access to a VERY accurate, calibrated, digital scale. (Used for weighing fuel in fuel economy testing)

CLK 16x7: 14.2xx lb
stock 14" Bundt: 13.8xx lb
(The scale read out to three decimals, but I can't remember them.)

I figured the Bundt would be fairly light due to its small size, but I didn't think it would be lighter than the CLK wheel!

Since I was swapping tires off of a set of 02 C230 Kompressor, dual 5 spoke wheels onto my CLK wheels, I took the opportunity to weight them as well.

C230 Kompressor 16x7 dual 5 spoke: 18.3xx lb

I got the same wheels for my 82 300sd. Will 5mm spacers work for me as well?

Spacers on the front?
What about spacers on the front? Did you use 5mm up there too? How did they fit?

I tried 10mm hubcentric H&R spacers on my CLK rims, but the spacers don't fit on the front due to the hub sticking out so far. I ended up using 25mm spacers, but still had to mill out the insides of the hubcentric extension. I tore up one of my tires on the fender lip because they stick out so far up front now. The 25mm spacers look awesome in the rear though and fit great! I have Vogtland lowering springs.

its like a really soft compound tire, kind of like driving on pencil erasers. Ya when I moved from Wisconsin to Mississippi I got some puzzled looks when I was talking about snow tires.
