Bought a GT22V...
Finally getting into the turbo project I've had planned for like 2 years...

I think its the same one Forced is using? I'm going to go with full electronic control though. I already have the circuit boards for a new boost and EGT gauge planned out and will be starting on the turbo computer board as soon as it arrives.. Going to implement a CAN (controller area network) just like new cars use to connect everything together. I have a friend taking engineering here at UGA and he said they have a CNC, so I might be able to get parts made on the cheap as practice for students...

Basically the same. That compressor wheel looks pretty chewed up and the turbine looks like the engine was burning coolant.

$75 isn't too bad but they do say it needs rebuilding.

I was afraid someone would say that... I thought it was just dirt on the compressor wheel in the pic, didn't look that closely since the auction was ending in a few hours and I had to go to class...

Thats why I never consider buying a turbo unless they have a good picture of the compressor wheel.

It will still work and balancing should be part of the rebuild, but with worn leading edges it will lose some efficiency.

It doesn't look too bad to me.

1979 240D- 'Sporty 240', 313K miles - GT2260V turbo, 4 speed manual with shorty knob, Air/Water Aftercooler, Many other Mods.

1982 300SD - 232 K miles - 'Big Black'

1986 F-250 4x4 6.9 Diesel, 150K miles - No turbo kit......Yet!

What is the make/model of the VNT found on the '03 & up Powerstrokes?

'Jurgen' - 1982 300sd cream paint with palimino MB tex interior. Now running with new cooling systemBig Grin.......discovered oil cooler has pinhole @#$%@Angry Nitrile gloves back on......

'Otto' - 1985 300sd anthracite? grey/silver? with grey leather interior. (heated front seats!!!!Cool ) Euro headlights

Mods are in the works...

It came in today!!

Its a lot smaller than I expected, is everyones VNT smaller than the stock turbo?

How do I figure out the exact model number of the turbo, as in GT22xxV?

Found out from EPC that it came from an OM647, and got a part number for the gasket. Not having any luck finding the part numbers for the oil fittings though, hopefully its a standard thread and I can probably have the return flange made. Theres no way to clamp tubing to the outside of the compressor outlet, so I'm going to have to find a way to either friction fit it inside or I'm going to have to drill into the turbo to attach it. I emailed my friend's engineering professor about using the school's CNC machine, so hopefully he'll get back to me soon.

The feed line is a standard metric banjo fitting, any good hydraulic shop will have one in stock.

I used a grinder and cut mine down to accept a 2.5" boot.

Yes. Thanks to advances in production and wheel efficiency, they don't need to be as big as the paddle wheel T3.

Bit tougher than just grinding it down on this one, the actuator mount is attached to the outlet. I got the actuator off and opened it up today, not sure if I can reverse engineer the signals used by the existing controller, but I can definitely build m own controller... Taking it to my house this afternoon so I can clean it without worrying about getting fined for making a mess in the bathrooms here..do I need to worry about getting water into the insides of the turbo? I'll start on the actuator circuit when I get back from the Auburn game on sunday, love to have this running in time for the drive to the bowl game, but I doubt thats going to happen.. Not sure if I want to put the entire turbo computer on the turbo or just send position signals to it yet...

The housing is normal aluminum. You could find the stock fitting to bolt-on or you could have one welded on.
